Police said they are still trying to track down the driver who led them on a high-speed car chase and then crashed the stolen vehicle Thursday night in Lancaster city.
The car was stolen during a home invasion robbery early Jan. 26 in the 300 block of East King Street, according to city police Lt. Todd Umstead.
Police did not release any information about the invasion until Friday.
A 30-year-old man told police he and a 33-year-old woman were sleeping at about 12:05 a.m. on Jan. 26 when three robbers with handguns kicked in a rear door and entered their home, Umstead said.
The man struggled with one of the robbers and sustained a laceration above his eye, Umstead said. After the robbers left, the man drove himself to Lancaster General Hospital.
He was treated and released later that morning, Umstead said. The woman was not injured.
Umstead did not know their relationship.
The robbers took a laptop, gaming system, tablet computer, wallet containing $350 cash, and three cellphones, he said.
They also took car keys from the home and used them to help steal a 1995 Infiniti Q45 parked on the first block of South Plum Street, Umstead said.
The stolen items, including the car, were valued at $2,660, he said.
A week later, on Thursday, East Lampeter Township police Sgt. Brian Cloonan spotted the car near Bridgeport shortly after 5 p.m., police said. He checked the sedan's plate and discovered the car had been stolen.
The car was traveling east in the 1600 block of Lincoln Highway East.
Cloonan followed the vehicle as it pulled into the parking lot of a Turkey Hill. A pursuit began when the car fled the lot and headed west into the city, via East King Street.
Cloonan said the driver turned onto Conestoga Drive and drove along the Conestoga River to Broad Street.
With speeds reaching 55 to 60 mph, Cloonan reported an active pursuit and requested assistance from city police.
The vehicle crossed Broad Street and traveled several blocks before crashing into a pillar in the 500 block of New Dauphin Street near Garden Court Apartments, according to Cloonan.
The driver fled on foot and had not been caught as of Friday, Umstead said.
Two passengers, women ages 18 and 19, were taken into custody, interviewed and later released, Umstead said.
No charges were filed in the case as of Friday.
