A Coatesville-based firm is consolidating two Chester County operations here in a $4 million venture that will bring more than 50 jobs.

EchoData Group, an order-fulfillment company, is buying the former Good's Furniture warehouse at 121 N. Shirk Road, New Holland.

Company officials said Wednesday that the 120,000-square-foot warehouse will replace two more-expensive, leased spaces.

Those are a 50,000-square-foot space in Coatesville and a 40,000-square-foot space in Parkesburg.

Bowen Smith, vice president of sales and marketing, and Chris Nocella, chief financial officer, explained that the local property has several advantages.

Its greater size gives EchoData room to easily handle peaks in volume as well as accommodate overall growth, they said.

Also, other buildings nearby are available, should even more space be needed.

The two Chester County sites have about 50 full-time workers, nearly all of whom are relocating to New Holland.

Another 30 workers are employed at a separate Coatesville location, the EchoData headquarters facility.

The Shirk Road warehouse adjoins the New Holland Recreation Center, which at one time was part of the Good's Furniture complex, too.

EchoData is leasing the warehouse short-term as it completes its $3 million purchase of the property in the coming weeks, Nocella said.

Besides the acquisition, EchoData foresees spending $500,000 on building upgrades such as better lighting and dock doors.

It also anticipates investing another $500,000 on equipment, such as racking and material-handling systems.

Established in 1983, EchoData offers full-service third-party fulfillment for clients.

It fills orders on the client's behalf, including assembling and packing products. It also can handle returns and field customer orders or inquiries, among other services.
