Another public meeting to inform the public on steps being taken to restore Speedwell Forge Lake will be held Thursday, Feb. 16.
The meeting, set up by state Sen. Mike Brubaker and state Rep. Tom Creighton, will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Warwick Middle School auditorium.
Representatives of the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission will be at the meeting to answer questions from the public and provide the most up-to-date information regarding funding and design issues, Brubaker said.
The lake was drained in October due to safety concerns after floodwaters damaged the dam and spillway.
The first public meeting with PFBC regarding Speedwell Forge Lake was held in November, and local residents voiced overwhelming support for restoring what Brubaker called "this local treasure."
Brubaker said the lake "has served as an important source of recreation for local hikers, sportsmen and other community residents for more than 40 years, and we must continue to explore every avenue to restore the natural beauty of this attraction for future generations."
Still, Brubaker noted that repairing the damage to the spillway and dam is expected to be an expensive venture, costing more than $6 million.
Since the public meeting in November, PFBC representatives have been in contact with state and federal agencies regarding funding options, which will be shared at the meeting, Brubaker said.
"While funding will be our biggest hurdle, there are a number of engineering and design issues that must be considered as well," Brubaker said.
A live stream of the Feb. 16 meeting will be available at senatorbrubaker.com. Video of the meeting also will be available on the website following the meeting.
