Garden Spot Village Concert Series will start the new year with a spiritual jazz program featuring The Four Piece Quartet on Saturday, Jan. 21, at 7 p.m. in the Garden Spot Village Chapel, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland.
Veteran jazz singer Robin Work will perform with the group. Work is best known as the featured soloist with the Dave Stahl Sacred Orchestra, Rob Stoneback Big Band and Andy Roberts Group as well as her own jazz trio.
The Four Piece Quartet was established in 1997 following their success playing jazz worship services in Lancaster County churches. All are professional jazz instrumentalists. Their song list includes beautiful, swinging hymns as well as original music.
Andy Roberts, from Lebanon, plays piano as well as composes and arranges music for the group. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, Boston, he is music director for both Timbers Dinner Theatre, Mount Gretna, and the American Music Theatre, Lancaster. He also teaches jazz studies Lebanon Valley College.
Bob Meashey plays trumpet and tours eastern Pennsylvania with guitarist Steve Giodano. Musicians Meashey has played with include saxophonist Bob Mintzer, drummer Joe Morrello, bassist Stanley Clarke and vocalist Cab Calloway.
Steve Meashey on bass teaches jazz double bass at Messiah College.
Dave Lazorcik plays drums. He was drummer for the Dave Stahl Big Band for 11 years and has worked with performers such as The Temptations, Patti Andrews, Billy Eckstine, Bob Mintzer and Rodney Dangerfield. When he is not performing, Lazorcik teaches private lessons.
Garden Spot Village Concert Series will also feature the Red Rose City Chorus on Feb. 18, Schwandt Family Chamber Ensemble on March 17 and The Heritage Chorale of Lancaster on April 21.
The concerts are free and open to the public. Donations to the Garden Spot Village Benevolent Fund, which helps support residents who need financial assistance, will be accepted at the door.
