Lancaster police have charged a city man who they say seriously injured a woman by throwing her down the stairs on Christmas Eve.

Raymond L. Simpson, 33, of 355 E. Ross St., was arrested Wednesday night on a charge of aggravated assault.

He was arraigned by District Judge Janice Jimenez and released on $50,000 unsecured bail, according to court documents.

Police said the assault occurred during a Christmas party at Simpson's home.

The victim was on the porch of the home when she bumped into Simpson's girlfriend, who is pregnant, according to a criminal complaint.

Investigators said Simpson became "enraged," grabbing the victim by the arm and throwing her down a short flight of stairs.

The woman's face struck a concrete walkway, resulting in injuries that included a fractured jaw, fractured nose, fractures to both cheekbones and two chipped teeth, the complaint states.

She also suffered a head injury and a bruised arm, police added.

Officers arriving at the scene just before 10 p.m. found the victim "profusely bleeding" from head and facial injuries, the complaint states.

Police said the victim required medical treatment at Lancaster General Hospital.
