Silent movie fans won't want to miss "The Phantom of the Opera" with renowned organist, Wayne Zimmerman showing at the Garden Spot Village Chapel Saturday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m.
The West Chester organist will add an element of excitement to the free showing of the original 1925 classic American silent horror film.
"Our audience will get the total effect of a silent movie with Wayne Zimmerman's musical accompaniment," said Colleen Musselman, director of life enrichment at Garden Spot Village.
Zimmerman has performed nationwide and is well-known in the mid-Atlantic area for accompanying silent movies. His biography states that one of his greatest honors has been to play the famed Wanamaker pipe organ in Philadelphia.
Adapted from the novel of the same name written by Gaston Leroux, "The Phantom of the Opera" features Lon Chaney in the role as the deformed Phantom who haunts the Paris Opera House. The mad disfigured Phantom's love for a young opera singer played by Mary Philbin causes chilling crime and chaos as he seeks to help her gain stardom.
In 1998, the silent movie was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Film Registry for its culture, historical and aesthetic significance.
"We invite the community to join us for an evening of classic entertainment," said Musselman.
Garden Spot Village is located at 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland. Admission to the film is free with donations accepted for the Garden Spot Village Benevolent Fund.
