A benefit softball tournament Oct. 22 raised $7,500 for the Manheim Area Long-Term Recovery Committee.
Twenty teams participated in the tournament, which was held at four fields. The event was a volunteer effort that included staffing two concession stands and eight umpires donating their time. Scott Greiner, coordinator of the tournament, said that it was great to see almost 300 people show up to help those who have suffered from the flooding as the result of Tropical Storm Lee.
The championship game ended under the lights at the pool field. In the mixed gender championship game, Ruddick Images from Quarryville defeated RIP PP from Lancaster 17-10. In the Men's division Turkey Dairy from Manheim came back to beat Sticky Graphics/Manheim Auto Auction in two straight games after being beat by them by 10 runs earlier in the tournament.
Anyone wishing to donate funds to the Manheim Area Long-Term Recovery Committee, can send them to Zion Lutheran Church, 2 S. Hazel St., Manheim, PA (please indicate that the donation is for the long-term recovery effort).
