Atlantic League executives have named Barnstormers first baseman Tommy Everidge as the league's Player of the Year for the 2011.

In addition, Lancaster right-hander Matt Wright was selected as the league's Pitcher of the Month for September.

Everidge finished the season with league-leading marks of 41 doubles and 28 home runs.  He also lead the league with 160 hits, 285 total bases and was second in runs scored and RBIs.  His .319 average was sixth best in the league.

His total of 69 extra-base hits set a  league record, topping Brian Becker (Nashua, 2005) by one, despite having only 125 games on the schedule.  Everidge started in all 125 for Lancaster.

Both the doubles and home runs totals were Barnstormers franchise records.  He also set club highs during the year by scoring a run in 12 consecutive games and by driving in a run in eight straight.  His biggest month was August when he hit .394 with 36 RBIs in 27 games to earn Player of the Month honors.

The native of Glen Allen, Calif. becomes the first Barnstormer to win the title outright.  Aaron Herr won a share of the honor in 2010.

In addition to winning the Player of the Year honor, Everidge was chosen as the season-ending All-Star first baseman.

"If you put all the numbers together, nobody was more deserving," said manager Butch Hobson in a press release.  "He's a workaholic who comes to play every day.  This award is only fitting."

Wright made two regular season starts during September and was 2-0 with a 0.60 ERA.  He fired a one-hitter against Southern Maryland on Sept. 3 and followed it up six days later by allowing only two hits and a run in six innings in an 8-5 win over the Road Warriors.  Between the two starts, the Waco, Tex. native walked only two while striking out 15.

Wright missed his final start of the season with an inflamed knee but came back to limit the eventual league champion York Revolution to three hits and a run in six innings during a Game Four victory in the Freedom Division series.

He finished the season sixth in the league with a 3.98 ERA.

"In my opinion, (Matt) was the best starting pitcher in the league throughout the second half," said Hobson.  "The start against Southern Maryland and the start against York in the playoffs were outstanding.  I really hope he can come back and start for us next year."
