Five members of an Amish family were injured when a car collided with their buggy Friday night in Colerain Township, officials said.

The crash happened in the 1500 block of Kirkwood Pike around 9:30 p.m.

"The buggy was rear-ended by the car," Quarryville Fire Company Chief Jamie Welk said.

The buggy was carrying two adults and three children, including an infant, Welk said.

Two people were in the vehicle. They weren't injured.

The most seriously injured were the two Amish adults; one sustained a serious leg injury and the other a gash to the head.

The children had minor injuries and were taken to a house in the 800 block of Pumping Station Road until medical personnel could treat them.

The horse pulling the buggy was missing.

"It'll show up eventually," Welk said.

In addition to Quarryville Fire Company, ambulance and medic units from Lancaster and Chester counties were dispatched, as was PennStar 2 medical helicopter, although the helicopter was later recalled.

All the patients were taken to Lancaster General Hospital. Their conditions were not available late Friday.
