Anna Ackerman didn't want to take a chance with a jury.
So, on the day her trial was to begin, she admitted to having had sex with a 15-year-old boy at a 2009 party she hosted in Mount Joy.
Ackerman, now 44, pleaded guilty to two felony sex crimes and misdemeanor corruption of minors regarding the June 16, 2009, incident at her South Barbara Street home.
Assistant District Attorney Susan Ellison and defense attorney Cory Miller agreed on a 5-to-10-year prison sentence in exchange for the plea.
County President Judge Joseph Madenspacher accepted the plea and will sentence Ackerman within three months.
Ackerman decided to plead after Madenspacher ruled Wednesday afternoon that crucial prosecution evidence was allowed at trial, her attorney said.
The crimes were outlined this way in an affidavit filed by Mount Joy Borough police:
The boy, whom the Intelligencer Journal/Lancaster New Era isn't naming, was at Ackerman's home for a party that night. He took a shower, and Ackerman helped him dry off afterward.
Another person at the house recorded the towel-drying on a camera cell phone. Police seized that video. The two then went into Ackerman's bedroom, where the woman performed oral sex on the boy and had sexual intercourse with him. The boy's mother reported the incident when she found out about it a month later.
Ackerman, in a police interview, admitted to having sex with the boy, knowing he was 15.
Attorneys on both sides were prepared for trial Wednesday when Ackerman suddenly decided to plead about 1:45 p.m.
