Lancaster County native and World War II hero Maj. Dick Winters and his "Band of Brothers" comrades will be honored during a pre-game ceremony at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

The June 6 event — when the Lancaster Barnstormers take on the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs — will coincide with the 67th anniversary of the D-Day invasion of Europe and will include three original Easy Company veterans and three cast members from the award-winning HBO miniseries that told their story.

"This will be a unique and memorable night that will honor Maj. Dick Winters and the men of Easy Company," said Yasmin Brown, one of the event organizers. "If it hadn't been for them and their bravery, the world we live in today could have been a very different place."

Scheduled to appear are Easy Company veterans William "Wild Bill" Guarnere, Edward "Babe" Heffron and Brad Freeman.

Actors slated to appear are Frank John Hughes, who portrayed Guarnere, James Madio, who portrayed Frank Perconte, and Ross McCall, who portrayed Joe Liebgott.

During the pre-game activities, the actors and veterans will ride onto the field in World War II-era Jeeps. They will speak to the crowd about Winters and Easy Company.

"We want this to be a great experience for everyone who's in attendance so they can really see who these guys are, that they are dynamic individuals," Barnstormers spokesman Brian Radle said.

The veterans and the actors also will throw out ceremonial first pitches. After that, the actors will mingle with the crowd, sign autographs and accept donations for the Dick Winters Leadership Project, which is hoping to raise $400,000 to erect a statue to Winters in France. Taking part in the ceremony, too, will be 12-year-old Jordan Brown of Lebanon, who has raised nearly $50,000 toward that goal by selling bracelets bearing Winters' favorite expression, "Hang Tough."

The event will be emceed by retired WGAL news anchor Dick Hoxworth.

Game tickets are $10, with part of the proceeds benefiting the Winters' Leadership Project.

•Earlier in the day, the veterans and the actors will be at Lancaster Jewish Community Center, 2120 Oregon Pike, for a luncheon and a panel discussion about Easy Company and the legacy of Winters, who died in January.

Seating is limited to 200. Reservations are required at $50 per seat or $350 for a table of eight.

Reservations can be made by going to hangtough6644.org.

The event starts at noon.

Anyone interested in supporting the Leadership Project but unable to attend the game can purchase the $1 bracelets in New Holland at Radio Shack, 331 E. Main St.; in Ephrata at Michelle's Hallmark in Cloister Shopping Center, 180 N. Reading Road; or at Ciro's Italian Bistro at Richmond Square.
