FIRE

LANCASTER: A reported explosion at K&L Plating, 534 E. Mifflin St., was fireworks set off on the roof of the building, shortly before 9 p.m. Friday, said city fire department Battalion Chief Brian Klugh. The fireworks burned through rubber roofing and ignited foam insulation underneath. The fire was discovered and quickly brought under control.

DUI

SALISBURY TWP.: State police charged Sandra Werner with driving under the influence at 1:02 a.m. Friday after she was stopped for a traffic violation. The stop happened at Routes 30 and 772.

NEW HOLLAND BOROUGH: Derrick Sensenig, 21, of New Holland, was charged by borough police with driving under the influence, stemming from an April 23 accident in which police said they witnessed Sensenig drive over a stop sign at North Shirk and Linden Grove roads and drive away. Police said Sensenig had a blood alcohol content of 0.121 percent.

RAPHO TWP.: Joshua D. Boyd, 25, of Columbia, was charged by state police with driving under the influence Saturday. Boyd was stopped at 2:35 a.m. for a traffic violation on Habecker Road at Drager Road and was found to be intoxicated, police said.

COLERAIN TWP.: A 34-year-old man, who state police said was under the influence of alcohol, is in serious condition after his car struck a tree at 2:23 a.m. Saturday on Route 472 at Noble Road.

State police said Earnest Eugene Jr., no address given, was driving at a high rate of speed when his car struck a tree. Jones, who was trapped inside the vehicle, was extricated by Quarryville Fire Company and airlifted to Lancaster General Hospital.

State police said they would file a DUI charge against Jones.

DRUGS

LITITZ: Samuel Velazquez, 23, was arrested for drug possession early Sunday, May 8, after police said they found a small amount of marijuana in his home in the first block of Front Street.

Lititz police had gone to the apartment after receiving a noise complaint. Officers found several teens there, a marijuana-smoking device and a grinder containing marijuana. Also arrested was Armando Batista, 19, for consumption of alcohol by a minor.

MOUNT JOY BOROUGH: Brandon J. Adams, 22, of Elizabethtown, was charged by state police Thursday night with possession of a small amount of marijuana after he was stopped for a traffic violation on North Barbara Street at West Main Street.

EAST COCALICO TWP.: Kevin Hafer, 30, of Denver, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, loitering and prowling and criminal mischief around 2:30 a.m. Saturday after he smashed mailboxes and tried to get rid of a marijuana pipe, township police said. He was arrested in a yard behind a home in the 100 block of North Reamstown Road. Police said Hafer also had an outstanding bench warrant, and he was sent to Lancaster County Prison.

ASSAULT

LITITZ: Homer Richard Clifford, 43, of the first block of West Orange Street, was arrested Saturday, May 7, for assault following a domestic dispute, police said. He was committed to Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $7,000 bail.

HARASSMENT

STRASBURG TWP.: Theresa Winters, 55, of Willow Street, was charged with harassment by state police Thursday, after police said she grabbed another woman's arm over a neighborhood dispute. The incident happened in the 1500 block of Beaver Valley Pike, police said.

NEW HOLLAND BOROUGH: A 15-year-old boy was charged with harassment by borough police May 4 after a fight at Garden Spot High School. The boy repeatedly punched another student during a fight, borough police said.

TRESPASSING

LITITZ: Thomas Odell Seymour III, 19, of the 100 block of Limerock Road, was cited for defiant trespassing early Saturday, May 7, for being in Lititz Springs Park after dusk. Seymour had previously been warned about being in the park at night, police said.

THEFT

LITITZ: Yvonne Laventure, 38, of the 100 block of South Spruce Street, was charged with misdemeanor theft by unlawful taking Monday, police said. Laventure was reportedly seen on a video surveillance in March removing a donation jar from the counter of the Turkey Hill Minit Market, 735 S. Broad St.

NEW HOLLAND BOROUGH: Cash was stolen from a vehicle owned by a Leola man on May 6 while it was parked at Case New Holland, borough police said.

EAST COCALICO TWP.: Someone broke into Johnny's Bar & Steak House, 1640 N. Reading Rd., and grabbed an undetermined amount of cash early Saturday morning, township police said. The restaurant's alarm system sounded, and police responded within minutes, but the robber was gone, according to police.

VANDALISM

LITITZ: Vandals reportedly scratched the hoods and sides of seven vehicles parked on Front, North Cedar and Liberty streets between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, police reported.

PHONE SCAMS

EPHRATA BOROUGH: Police received two complaints of an attempted phone scam.

In both cases, a male caller claims to be the victim's grandson or is calling on behalf of the grandson. The caller advises the victim that his or her grandson has been arrested for driving under the influence or another traffic infraction and needs money for bail. The caller instructs the listener to wire money via Western Union to a location in Mexico or the Dominican Republic.

NEW HOLLAND BOROUGH: Borough police received several reports of a phone scam in which the caller claims to be a debt collector for loans. The caller attempts to have the victims fax credit card information to repay the debts. Victims are verbally abused if they don't cooperate and have their home, cell and work phone numbers called repeatedly. The FBI has issued a warning for these scams, calling them "Payday" scams.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT

RAPHO TWP.: Nelson Lutz, Jr., 28, of Annville, was charged Friday at 4 p.m. with summary disorderly conduct on Route 72 at Pinch Road, state police said. Lutz allegedly inconvenienced drivers traveling behind him by slamming on his car's brakes for no reason several times, police said.

FALSE IDENTIFICATION

EAST COCALICO TWP.: Luis Rodriguez, 28, of the 1000 block of Henn Ave., Ephrata, was charged with giving police a false name early Saturday, when he was stopped for a traffic violation in the 1400 block of North Reading Road, township police said.
