An Ephrata man robbed and assaulted a woman in the town on Tuesday and he is now behind bars, police said.
Ephrata police responded to an apartment in the first block of East Main Street at 5 p.m. for a domestic disturbance, they said.
Officers made contact with a woman who had visible injury to her neck, forehead and throat area, police said.
She told police that Miguel Torres-Delgado, 25, 38 N. State St., came to her apartment and argued with her, police said.
Torres-Delgado then grabbed the woman by the throat and began to strangle her, police said.
As the woman struggled to break free, Torres-Delgado forcefully took her cell phone from her pocket, police said. He then fled.
The woman immediately called police, they said.
Officers located Torres-Delgado a few blocks away in about 15 minutes and took him into custody, police said. They recovered the woman's cell phone from Torres-Delgado.
The woman refused treatment for her injuries, police said.
Police charged Torres-Delgado with robbery and domestic violence-related simple assault, they said. He was arraigned and sent to Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bail.
