• If you're under the age of 30, you might find this hard to believe, but the Oakland Raiders haven't always been so unstable.

In fact, for a good bit of the 1970s and early 1980s, the Raiders and Steelers dominated the NFL, winning six Super Bowls in seven years — four by the Steelers, two by the Raiders.

In the 25 seasons from 1963-87, the Raiders had just four head coaches: Al Davis, John Rauch, John Madden and Tom Flores.

Madden coached for 10 seasons (1969-78), going 103-32-7 with one Super Bowl title and no losing seasons. Flores coached the Raiders for nine seasons (1979-87), going 83-53 with two Super Bowl titles and two losing seasons.

That's a 19-year period in which the Raiders went 186-85-7, won three Super Bowls and had only two losing seasons.

But since 2004, the Raiders have had five head coaches: Norv Turner, Art Shell, Lane Kiffin, Tom Cable and now Hue Jackson.

In that seven-year period, the Raiders have gone 33-79 with six losing seasons. Their only non-losing campaign since 2004 was this season, when they were 8-8. Of course, Davis, the Raiders' longtime owner, celebrated his team's rise to .500 by firing Cable and promoting Jackson.

The Raiders have had 11 different coaching terms (including two by Shell) since Mike Shanahan was named the head coach in 1988.

By comparison, the Steelers have had just three coaches since 1969: Chuck Noll, Bill Cowher and Mike Tomlin.

Noll (193-148-1, four Super Bowl titles) was the head coach from 1969-91, followed by Cowher (149-90-1, one Super Bowl title) from 1992-2006.

Tomlin, in his fourth season, is 43-21 with one Super Bowl title.

• Trivia question: In Chuck Noll's 23 years as head coach, 13 different quarterbacks started games for the Steelers. How many of those QBs can you name?

Deion Barnes, a defensive end from Northeast High School in Philadelphia, made his verbal commitment to Penn State on Thursday.

Barnes (6-5, 220) is the 15th high-school senior to commit to the Nittany Lions.

Barnes, who was also considering Georgia, had 13 sacks and 85 tackles this season. Rivals.com ranks him as the nation's 158th-best recruit overall and the sixth-best weakside defensive end.

Only one Penn State recruit is listed among Rivals.com's top 100 overall. Anthony Zettel, from West Branch, Mich., is 65th on Rivals.com's overall list. Zettel (6-4, 254) is sixth on the list of strongside defensive ends.

• Answer to trivia question: Dick Shiner, Terry Hanratty, Terry Bradshaw, Joe Gilliam, Mike Kruczek, Cliff Stoudt, Mark Malone, David Woodley, Scott Campbell, Bubby Brister, Steve Bono, Todd Blackledge and Neil O'Donnell.

Two of those quarterbacks played their high-school football in the area.

Shiner starred at Lebanon High School and Maryland.

Another bit of trivia: Shiner is the only Terrapins quarterback to beat Penn State, engineering a 21-17 victory Nov. 4, 1961, in College Park, Md. PSU is 35-1-1 in its 37-game history against Maryland.

Campbell was a standout at Hershey High School and Purdue.
