North American Football League action comes to Clipper Magazine Stadium Saturday, when the Lancaster Lightning (3-4) host the Pittsburgh Colts (4-2) at 7 p.m.
The Lightning will make their second appearance at the stadium and first since 2006, when they edged the South Central Yard Dawgs of Harrisburg thanks to a blocked field goal in the final seconds.
Saturday's game will include several subplots, including the return of the Colts to the Lightning schedule. The Colts have been in existence since 1979 and are a very respected franchise on a national level.
Lancaster has never beaten the Colts, who last played here in 2003. That game, a 6-0 Pittsburgh victory, was played at McCaskey High School. Earlier this year, the Lightning traveled to Pittsburgh for their second game of the season and lost, 26-0.
In honor of all who have sacrificed as a result of the events of Sept. 11, 2001, all military, police, fire and EMT personnel will be admitted free.
Saturday will also be Cancer Awareness Night. As always, the Lightning will donate proceeds from the 2010 season to cancer research and awareness institutes and organizations.
Also admitted free (with jerseys) will be all participants in Lancaster Recreation Commission's NFL Youth Flag Football program; all Boys and Girls Clubs of America members with ID; and all Youth Football and Cheerleading program participants of Lancaster County (with jersey, warmup, or program tee).
Tickets are $10 at the gate. Children 4 and under are admitted free.
