Shady Maple Farm Market has completed a more than $1 million renovation that created a new entrance and carport, adjusted the store layout and expanded the café and produce department.

The work, which began one year ago, also created new space in the bulk foods and candy departments, added four checkout lanes and enlarged some restrooms. In all, the store added 14,000 square feet.

Several new employees also were added to the roughly 350-employee store, said Lin Weaver, farm market manager. The store will mark the completion of the project today with a grand re-opening celebration.

At more than 150,000 square feet, Shady Maple Farm Market, at 1324 Main St. (Route 23), East Earl, is Lancaster County's largest grocery store.

Lititz store opening

Sonnie's Secret, a women's boutique, will open by the end of the week at 22 E. Main St., Lititz.

The roughly 700-square-foot shop carries a selection of sportswear for women, including jackets, pants and sweaters. It is located in the Zum Anker Alley Shoppes.

Sonnie's Secret is owned by Sondra Wentling, who was a personal shopper and department manager at the former Doneckers in Ephrata.

CVS updates

A CVS/pharmacy store at 2110 Spring Valley Road opened Aug. 22. The store, along Rohrerstown Road north of Route 30, features a drive-through pharmacy.

New CVS stores typically comprise roughly 13,000 square feet and have about 30 employees.

Store hours: 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Pharmacy hours: 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Phone: 299-4144.

Also, construction on a new CVS store in Lititz, along Route 501 near Keller Brothers, is scheduled to begin this fall, with a completion targeted for next summer, a spokesman said.

Gelato bar slated

By the end of the month, Javateas, a coffee shop at 1 Dutchland Ave. in Ephrata, will add a gelato bar.

A small existing bar with a couple of chairs will be replaced with a gelato case featuring a rotating variety of six flavors. Gelato is an Italian-style ice cream not to be confused with Italian ice. Javateas also has a location at 2 S. Prince St. in Millersville, which sells gelato.
