Two held on charges of burglary

Two Mount Joy residents were jailed last week after being charged with a string of recent burglaries.

State police arrested Adalberto Vargas, 46, and Aminta Alvarado, 37, in connection with four residential break-ins and the theft of approximately $18,000 worth of cash and property.

The burglaries, which took place June 2-22, happened in the 400 block of Walnut Run Road, Strasburg Township; the 300 block of Pumping Station Road, Colerain Township; the 100 block of Main Street, Providence Township; and the 900 block of Marticville Road, Martic Township.

Loot included flat-screen televisions, jewelry, guns, money and a game system, police said.

The pair were charged with burglary, criminal conspiracy to commit burglary, theft by unlawful taking and criminal mischief before District Judge Stuart J. Mylin and committed to Lancaster County Prison.


BURGLARY

MANHEIM TWP.: A home was entered Thursday in the 800 block of State Street. Items were moved but nothing was taken.

LANCASTER: A TV valued at $540 was taken from a home in the 500 block of West Orange Street Wednesday.


CRIMINAL MISCHIEF

EAST PETERSBURG: A window was broken in a home in the 1900 block of Larch Avenue Thursday. A neighbor reported a white male in his teens walking away. Damage was $200.

LANCASTER TWP.: Windows were shattered in six vehicles overnight Sept. 1-2 in the 1000 block of Grofftown Road, the 1200 block of East King Street and the first block of Parkside Avenue. Nothing was taken.

EAST COCALICO TWP.: Police cited three Reinholds juveniles for throwing things at a home and car in the first block of Highland Court repeatedly over a period of two weeks.

CAERNARVON TWP.: Two mailboxes were smashed in the 2300 block of Poplar Street between midnight and 8 a.m. Saturday, state police at Ephrata said.

BRECKNOCK TWP.: Two mailboxes were destroyed in the 5800 block of Knobby Hill Road and the 5700 block of Kingsfield Drive, police said.

SALISBURY TWP.: Mailboxes were destroyed on Mast Road and in the 700 and 800 blocks of Narvon Road.


DISORDERLY CONDUCT

MANHEIM TWP.: Justin B. Duval, 21, of Plum Street, Lancaster, and Caitlyn E. Dissinger, 24, of River Road, Drumore, were both charged Saturday following an argument in the street in the 700 block of McGrann Blvd.

WEST HEMPFIELD TWP.: Joshua B. Reidenbach, 22, of Mountville, was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest Thursday after he was found intoxicated and fighting with family members during a dispute in the 3200 block of Kitty Lane. He was committed to Lancaster County Prison.

COLUMBIA: Franklin Gerfin Waltman, 46, of Columbia, was charged Aug. 21 in the 300 block of Walnut Street.

TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS

EAST DRUMORE TWP.: Two people suffered minor injuries in a crash on Route 272 at Spring Valley Road Saturday afternoon, state police said. A truck driven by Daniel P. Callahan, 61, of Perryville, Md., struck a sport-utility vehicle driven by Roni L. Gerhart, 24, of Quarryville, at 2:03 p.m. Police said Callahan failed to yield to Gerhart as she pulled her vehicle into the intersection and was struck by Callahan's truck. A child in Gerhart's car was not hurt.

WEST HEMPFIELD TWP.: A 17-year-old Columbia girl was injured Wednesday after her vehicle struck a guard rail, flipped over the rail and rolled over several times on Route 30 at Malleable Road. The girl was thrown from the vehicle. She was taken to Lancaster General Hospital.


LIQUOR VIOLATIONS

EAST DONEGAL TWP.: Benjamin Robert Heydt, 21, of 1215 Janet Drive, Mount Joy, was charged with furnishing alcohol to minors in the first block of Coffee Goss Road, Maytown, on July 14.


DRINKING CHARGES

EAST COCALICO TWP.: Police cited two juveniles with underage drinking after they were stopped in the 600 block of North Reading Road and found in possession of alcohol at 12:33 a.m. Saturday.

MILLERSVILLE: Borough police cited more than a dozen people with alcohol-related offenses Thursday through Saturday.

Those cited with possession of an open container were:

Kyle D. Marley, 18, of Furlong; Brian M. Vanderveer, 22, of Lebanon, N.J.; John S. Bennett, 22, of Burrows Hall, Millersville University; Kevin J. McDevitt, 20, of Millersville University, also cited with underage drinking; Tariq Vinson-James, 21, of Columbia; Sarah R. Henry, 21, of Holtwood; Brain A. Lukenich, 20, of Felton; John C. Scanlin, 19, of Millersville University; Brittany L. Mathews, 19, a Lincoln University student, also cited with underage drinking; David W. Long II, 20, of Coatesville, also cited with underage drinking; Bethany M. Scull, 19, of Reading, also cited with underage drinking; Lideke Besems, 18, of the Netherlands; and a 17-year-old juvenile from the Netherlands.


THEFT

LANCASTER TWP.: A 40-foot aluminum ladder was taken from a vehicle parked in the 1100 Block of East King St. on Friday. Loss was $350.

LANCASTER TWP.: A window of a vehicle was smashed in the 200 block of Riverside Avenue Friday and took two Phillies hats and a pair of sneakers.

MANOR TWP: A GPS unit was taken from a motorcycle in the 100 block of Owl Bridge Road during the past week. Loss was unknown.

MANOR TWP: A resident of the first block of Derby Lane told police that a white Haro BMX bicycle was stolen from a shed late Friday or early Saturday.


VANDALISM

LANCASTER: Windows were broken or damaged on a vehicle in the 200 block of East Clay Street Wednesday.

LANCASTER: A tire was punctured on a vehicle in the 600 block of South Lime Street Wednesday.

LANCASTER: A rock was thrown through the window of a vehicle in the 700 block of East Madison Street Wednesday. Damage was $200.


HIT AND RUN

MARTIC TWP.: Dennis S. Perry, 22, of Willow Street, was charged after his car left Loop Road while negotiating a curve, crossed into the oncoming traffic lane, then drove into a field and struck a piece of farm equipment and a parked trailer. Police said he left the scene but was located two days later at a Willow Street garage.


DUI

RAPHO TWP.: Stephanie Cooper, 26, of Mount Joy, was charged Saturday at Mount Joy and Lefever roads.

MANHEIM TWP.: Charges are pending against George M. Giamboy, 44, of Bentley Ridge Boulevard, Lancaster, following a one-vehicle crash in which he drove through two yards and struck a pole on Meadow Lane, Friday.

STRASBURG TWP.: Manuel Pagan, 19, was charged on Route 222 at North Old Road on Aug. 26.


ASSAULT

LANCASTER TWP.: Kory S. Cowan, 20, no address reported, was charged Friday after he punched and pushed two other family members in the 900 Block of Sterling Place.
