The bright lights of Broadway are calling Devin Michael Lewis.
The singer and actor already has several musical theater performances under his belt. And he's spent some time on Broadway.
In the summer of 2009, the Ephrata High School senior spent two weeks as part of the Broadway Artist Alliance program in New York City after a successful audition.
"For two weeks I lived in New York City. I got to work with the Broadway stars," the 17-year-old said.
"That was a lot of fun living in New York City. That's where I want to be someday."
The tenor is going into his fourth year of voice training at Franklin & Marshall College, where his training is classical but his focus is musical theater.
He made the Lancaster County chorus as a sophomore. Since ninth grade, he has sung with the Comarada Ensemble.
A fixture at the Ephrata Playhouse, the aspiring actor has done 11 shows.
"In seventh grade, I did my first show there and literally it's been non-stop there," Devin said.
"Being onstage, the lights, the audience, I can't really explain it. It's like an adrenaline rush."
His first show was "Gypsy," in which he played a newspaper boy. He played Avery in "Charlotte's Web." In ninth grade, he played Zac in "High School Musical 1". That was followed by "High School Musical 2," in which he played Troy Bolton.
Last December, he played one of the brothers in "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" at the playhouse. In 2009, he was part of "The Producers" ensemble in the summer. In December 2008, he played a busboy in "She Loves Me."
In last year's spring musical he played the lead in "Pippin."
"It was nice. It was tons of fun," Devin said. "It was a good experience."
In 10th grade, he played Dennis in "All Shook Up." In his first high school musical, he played a jester in "Once Upon A Mattress."
This summer, he spent six weeks at Interlocken Music Camp in Michigan. Only 40 out of 700 who auditioned were accepted. In the final camp production, he got the second lead in "Aida."
"That was really exciting. A little sad. I made some great friends," Devin said. "I met people from all around the world."
He plans to study musical theater in college. New York University is at the top of his list. He is already doing auditions in New York. He recently auditioned for the "Music Man" tour.
"It's not a very stable career obviously. It's about timing," said the National Honor Society member. "I can't picture myself doing anything else."
He plays piano and composes music.
The student council member has a 3.9 grade-point average and will take Advanced Placement statistics this year.
In 10th grade, he was chair of the Homecoming Committee.
Last October, he traveled to London for two weeks to visit his brother, Tyler, and they traveled to Paris as well.
Since December, he has worked at Weiser's Market as a cashier.
He lives with his parents, Eleanor and James Lewis, in Akron.
