It's going to be a small wedding in Lancaster after all, for Genevieve Tallarico and David McKay.
But their dream of a small wedding almost turned into a big one.
Tallarico, 25, is a Lancaster Catholic High School graduate, and her fiancé, David McKay, 23, is a Dublin native who earned a soccer scholarship that brought him to Belhaven University in Jackson, Miss., where they met.
Earlier this summer, the couple sent an entry to NBC's "Today Show Throws a Wedding" contest, a series that celebrates the planning of a wedding ceremony and gives a couple a dream wedding with all expenses paid.
The catch? Viewers get to pick all elements of the wedding, from the rings and the wedding dress to the bridal hairstyle and honeymoon location.
What followed was a memorable experience for the young couple.
A contest representative called informing them they had been selected as one of four finalist couples, from hundreds of applicants.
The final decision came live on the air Aug. 25 at the NBC studio.
Tallarico and McKay did not win — but they didn't return to their Orlando, Fla., home empty-handed, either.
As a consolation prize, they were given an all-expenses-paid four-day trip to the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in St. Thomas.
"It would have been nice to have everything paid for and not have to worry about it, but either way, I can't complain," Tallarico said.
The couple's wedding is planned for March 5, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lancaster.
