Police said an alleged thief tried to stab another man with a hypodermic needle at a grocery store in Lancaster Township Monday evening.
Miguel Flores, 51, no known address, was observed leaving the Giant store, 1369 Columbia Ave., without paying for $116 worth of razors, according to Manheim Township police.
An employee confronted Flores and a struggle ensued during which Flores allegedly attempted several times to stab the employee with a hypodermic needle, police said.
"At that point, I think the employee realized it was best just to get out of the way," Sgt. Tom Rudzinski said.
Flores then "made a break" for the door but was confronted by police, who had just arrived, Rudzinski said.
Rudzinski said he does not know why Flores had a hypodermic needle but said there was no health concern because the needle didn't penetrate the employee's skin.
Flores was arraigned and committed to Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bail.
