Jamar Hill's second home run of the game, a two-run shot in the 16th inning, lifted the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs to a 7-5 victory over the Lancaster Barnstormers Tuesday night at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

Hill's game-winning blast, his 13th homer of the season, came at the expense of reliever Austin Hinkle (0-2), ending a five-hour, five-minute marathon.

Lancaster's loss left the Barnstormers 1 1/2 games behind the Somerset Patriots in the Atlantic League's Freedom Division.

Chris Hayes (2-0), who pitched six innings of shutout relief, picked up the victory for Southern Maryland while Bryan Dumesnil pitched a perfect 16th to register his first save of the season.

Trailing in the second, Lancaster grabbed a 2-1 lead thanks to a two-out, two-run double by catcher Octavio Martinez that plated Reggie Taylor and Ryan Mulhern.

The Crabs tied it in the fourth when Jeremy Owens hit a two-out triple off the fence in right and scored when Ben Harrison followed that with a bloop single to right.

Southern Maryland took a 3-2 lead in the fifth when nine-hole hitter Justin Armiger hit a home run just inside the pole in the left-field corner. It was his second homer in 54 at-bats this season.

Lancaster's Ross Peeples, making only his third spot start of the year (38th appearance), allowed three runs over five innings on seven hits. He struck out four and walked none. Of his 74 pitches, 53 were strikes.

The Crabs threatened in the sixth, putting runners on first and second with one out off Charlie Weatherby, who struck out Harrison and Richard Giannotti to end the inning.

The Barnstormers did the same thing in their half of the sixth. This time, it was Blue Crab reliever Jason Waddell who fanned Michael Woods and Martinez to silence the threat.

Southern Maryland regained a 5-3 lead in the seventh off Weatherby, thanks to an RBI single by Shaun Cumberland and a long home run to left off the bat of Jamar Hill.

Aaron Herr walked to lead off the eighth and came around on Taylor's blast to right-center field on a 3-2 pitch from Ryan Speier.

It was Taylor's second home run in as many nights and 20th of the season.

Through the 13th inning, Taylor was 2-for-5, which gives him six straight multi-hit games (14-for-25).

The Blue Crabs had a runner on base in each extra inning, but could not score off Sean Thompson, who entered in the tenth inning.

Tim McNab, Tim Hamulack and Thompson blanked the Crabs over the next seven innings.

Lancaster threatened in the 12th when Vic Gutierrez singled with one out and Bryan Nelson reached on a Travis Garcia error. But side-arming Crab reliever Hayes struck Herr and got Taylor to ground to short to end the frame.

Woods doubled with one out in the 13th, but was stranded there when Martinez struck out and L.J. Biernbaum grounded to second.

Notes: Southern Maryland OF Harrison struck out five times. … Herr's first five at-bats all led off an inning.
