The state and local West Nile virus officials plan to spray mosquitoes early next week in Lancaster Township and the city, including near Clipper Magazine Stadium.
Mosquito-control spraying after dark on Monday will take place near the intersection of Millersville Pike and Schoolhouse Road.
This will be the third time the area in Lancaster Township has been sprayed. High populations capable of transmitting West Nile virus have been found in the area this summer.
The last sampling did not turn up any infected mosquitoes but "we just want to keep hitting that area," said Matt Mercer, of the county's West Nile Program.
The area will be sprayed with Biomist 3 + 15 from an all-terrain vehicle. If weather conditions are not suitable, the spraying will occur on Wednesday. The spray will dissipate by daybreak, Mercer said.
The county program will be assisted by the state Department of Environmental Protection on Tuesday evening in spraying several areas in the city and a second location in Lancaster Township.
The wooded area near the railroad tracks and the parking lot adjacent to Clipper Magazine Stadium will be sprayed.
Other locations in the city targeted for spraying are the North Duke and Liberty streets area, Second and Coral streets, Prospect and High streets, and St. Mary's Cemetery at New Holland Avenue and North Lime Street.
Also, in Lancaster Township, the area around the Wabank Road and Millersville Road intersection will be sprayed.
Species of mosquitoes that can bite humans have been found with the virus in 34 locations in the city, Lancaster Township, Manheim Township, East Hempfield Township, Manor Township, Pequea Township and Mount Joy Borough so far this summer.
The incidence of mosquitoes with West Nile virus has been strikingly up this summer over last summer in eastern Pennsylvania. But no human cases of West Nile virus have been found in the state so far in 2010.
