A Mount Joy man who wore a bandanna as he walked "in and around" a mini-mart is facing an attempted robbery charge, police said.

Terrance J. Lewis, 37, of 78 Lancaster Estates, walked into the Turkey Hill Minit Mart, 245 N. Market St., Elizabethtown, early Friday wearing a bandanna over his face, police said.

Police said they found Lewis "to the rear of the store."

A search of Lewis turned up a note "demanding cash and cigarettes," Elizabethtown police Officer Shane Deardorff said.

Lewis wasn't armed, and he didn't approach the clerk with the note.

Police, however, said an investigation "determined that Lewis intended to rob the store based on witness information and evidence found at the scene."

"It does seem like it's a good charge," Lancaster County District Attorney Craig Stedman said this week. "It's very rare to charge attempted robbery since he didn't actually go through with it, but yes, this would be legit."

Lewis was arraigned before District Judge William G. Reuter on charges of attempted robbery and disorderly conduct and committed to Lancaster County Prison.
