A thief with a sweet tooth targeted a Turkey Hill in West Lampeter Township on Thursday morning.
The theft happened around 5:30 a.m. at the store at 1561 Millport Road, township police Chief Jim Walsh said.
The thief purchased a candy bar, he said. When the clerk tried to give him his change, the man reached over the counter and swiped a handful of cash.
The clerk tried to grab the man from across the counter, but the thief got away with a small amount of money, Walsh said.
The thief, who was alone, didn't display a weapon or say anything to the clerk, the chief said.
The thief fled in a silver car, described as possibly an older-model Honda or Toyota, Walsh said. He was last seen driving on Millport Road toward Lancaster city.
The thief was described as a black man in his 20s with a large build, possibly weighing as much as 300 pounds, Walsh said. He was wearing a white-striped polo shirt and white shorts.
Police were trying to obtain video footage from the store surveillance system, he said.
Police ask anyone with information to call Detective Jere Schuler at 464-2421. Tipsters may also call Lancaster City-County Crime Stoppers at (800) 322-1913.
