Shortly before 8 p.m, Tuesday, Manheim Township police received reports that a large gang of teens, possibly 15 to 20, had assaulted younger trick-or-treaters along a street in Grandview Heights.

The victims, two 13-year-olds and two 14-year-olds, told police that the group approached them in the 1000 block of Cameron Avenue and began to assault them for an unknown reason.

The victims were punched and kicked, but they sustained no injuries, police said. When officers arrived, the group had left the area. The victims said their attackers were older, probably in the 15-to-17 age bracket.

Lancaster County Control on Tuesday received 25 to 30 reports about paintball shootings in sections of Lancaster City. Most of the reports came from residents in the city’s southeast. The locations included South Marshall Street, South Ann Street, South Plum Street, East King Street and Beaver Street.

Pranksters set four small fires in the city between 7 and 9:30 p.m., Lancaster fire officials said.

The first call was at 7:19 p.m. Unknown suspects poured lighter fluid in the middle of the Filbert Street-Manor Street intersection and ignited the fluid.

Firefighters also extinguished a brush fire at 7:54 p.m. at 128 Pearl St., a 7:59 p.m. fire in a pile of leaves at 127 Ruby St., and a 9:28 p.m. brush fire at 730 E. King St., officials said.

Lancaster state police were sent on a vandalism call at the Providence Township home of Dolores C. Phifer, Hawthorne Circle, Willow Street, on Tuesday night. Someone smeared a soapy substance on the driver side window of the woman’s vehicle, and the substance dripped onto the driver’s side door, Trooper Kevin S. Edmunds said.

East Cocalico Township poice investigated several earlier vandalism incidents including:
  • Pumpkin thrown at the mailbox of Michael Greenwood, Texter Mountain Road, Reinholds on Saturday night. The $30 mailbox was destroyed, police said.
  • Unknown object thrown at the windshield of a vehicle heading south in the 400 block of South Reamstown Road at about 6 p.m. Sunday. Raymond Greiner, East Church Street, Stevens, was driving north when the object struck and damaged his windshield, police said. Estimated damage: $200.
  • “Keying’’ or scratching three vehicles with a sharp object in Denver on Saturday night. Egg throwers also damaged the siding of the Little Britain Township home of Dwight Wallace, who lives on Ashville Road, Quarryville, state police said. The incident happened shortly before 6 p.m. Monday.

Eggs also were thrown at cars traveling on Route 72 near Lilac Drive, north of Manheim, on Tuesday, Ephrata state police said. The suspects were not located.
