Hispanic Fest ... Friday, Saturday

The summer sun's got nothing on the sizzling sounds of Grupo Caribe, the highlighted band Friday during the annual San Juan Bautista Hispanic Festival on the church grounds at 425 S. Duke St. The band, with members from Allentown and Bethlehem, uses guitar, piano, bass, conga, bongo and vocals to bring to life Spanish folk music plus some salsa, merengue and even some ballads. Tomorrow night's music will step it up even more with the salsa band Orquesta Boricua Son (left). But as popular as it is, the music is only part of the fun at the festival, which also features a variety of traditional Hispanic cuisine, games, rides, displays, arts and crafts and family fun. Since 1984, the church has hosted the festival. Says the Rev. Allan F. Wolfe, pastor of San Juan Bautista: "Our Hispanic festival is an annual opportunity to celebrate our Catholic Christian faith, and share the richness of our Hispanic culture with our Spanish- and English-speaking neighbors." The festival, which opened Wednesday, continues from 6 to 11 Friday and from 4 to 11 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free. For details, visit www.sanjuanbautistalancaster.com.

Hershey KISS ... Saturday

Love 'em or hate 'em, the rock band KISS, performing Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Hersheypark Stadium, has become something of a rock-and-roll icon in American culture. Their outlandish, skunk-colored face paint and wild live shows have earned the group a place in the collective psyche of generations of rebel teenagers everywhere. After all, KISS has been around going on 40 years (sheesh!). Lucky for Paul Stanley and company, grease paint hides a multitude of sins! Still, the guys are going to be playing songs like "Rock and Roll All Nite" (or at least until 8 p.m. nowadays) and "Detroit Rock City," among others. The group has sold 80 million albums. Saturday's show will feature The Feens, a band from Hamburg, opening for KISS. The group was a winner in Guitar Center's On-Stage competition (www.gconstage.com). Tickets for Saturday's show range from $45 to $131 -- surely a bargain price to see that famous Gene Simmons tongue. For ticket availability, call 534-3911 or visit www.hersheyparkstadium.com.

Master artisans ... Saturday, Sunday

This weekend you have to go to Delaware to get the best from the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen during the 4th annual Pa. Guild Fine Craft Fair. On Saturday and Sunday, the Chase Center on the Riverfront in Wilmington will host more than 170 master artisans displaying furniture, clothing, jewelry, household goods, sculpture, fine art, pottery, fiber, leather goods, quilts, basketry and much more. But although the guild is called the Pa. Guild, it works closely with more than 1,000 artisans from 33 states. This year's show includes a new emerging artists section featuring seven people who've been working in clay and jewelry for only a few years. The event also features 12 demonstration areas including theorem painting, wood turning, tatted jewelry (lace making), marble carving, spoon making, and weaving. The fair is open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults and free for children under 12.
