“I am proud to bring members of the Lancaster Barnstormers organization to the House floor today to receive this citation honoring their championship season,” Sturla said. “Their achievement of winning Lancaster’s first professional baseball championship in 51 years is truly amazing since it is only their second year of existence.”
Barnstormers in attendance on the House floor were Jon Danos, owner and president of Keystone Baseball; Keith Lupton, senior vice president of baseball operations, Keystone Baseball; Brad Sims, senior vice president of business operations, Keystone Baseball; Barnstormers manager Tom Herr; coach Frank Klebe; Jeremy Todd, infielder; Andy Zwirchitz, pitcher; Jutt Hileman, outfielder; Shawn Gelnett, assistant general manager; Jason Jesberger, marketing director; Jeff Bertoni (I.M. Fun), corporate sales and game presentation; Adam Aurand, public relations manager; and Tim Beckwith, a/k/a Cylo the mascot.
“It’s an honor to be invited to the state Capitol and a privileged to join Representative Sturla and the rest of the Lancaster Delegation before the House of Representatives,” Danos said. “I couldn’t think of a better culmination of a championship season, and I think today reflects the Barnstormers’ tremendous success on the field and in the community over the past few years.”
Sturla’s resolution (H.R. 891) resolved to “honor the players, the manager, the coaching staff, and the entire staff of the Lancaster Barnstormers baseball team for their accomplishments and on the occasion of winning the 2006 Atlantic League Championship.”
His resolution also commended the Barnstormers for becoming the only team in Atlantic League history to go unbeaten in the two rounds of playoffs and only the second team to win both halves of the season and title.
