Charles Raymond Shaw has been named executive editor of the Intelligencer Journal/Lancaster New Era.
In making the announcement, Harold E. Miller Jr., president and chief executive officer of Lancaster Newspapers Inc., said the new title recognizes Shaw's overall responsibility for directing all of the operational elements and the strategic planning of the combined daily edition.
"As executive editor, Ray will be setting the standards for the publication's news reporting content and performance, motivating and developing our daily editorial staff and maintaining the annual budget,'' Miller said.
Shaw will continue to be responsible for the opinion and subject matter appearing on the Intelligencer Journal's daily editorial page and will also retain the title of editor of the Intelligencer Journal.
A graduate of Temple University and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, Shaw joined Lancaster Newspapers in 1973 as a reporter on the Intelligencer Journal. He was named assistant news editor of the Intelligencer Journal in 1984, news editor in 1989 and was appointed the paper's editor in 1997.
The Intelligencer Journal and Lancaster New Era merged to form one morning weekday and Saturday newspaper in June 2009.
