ArtWalk spreads visual inspiration through the city

Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m., 40 locations, most within walking distance of each other, will open their doors for the event.

Fall ArtWalk is sponsored by lancaster Museum of Art, and admission to all sites is free.

Some exhibits will be open only during this weekend, while others will continue through October.

The exhibits and their locations are:

1. Alan Swanson, Sculptsource Studio, 740 W. Vine St., 393-4688. “Once Upon A Time and Again” — This exhibit is a continued series of miniature, direct-welded steel sculptures by Alan Swanson, spanning 35 years. Also on view will be layered textile paintings by Linda Rugel.

2. Art & Glassworks, 319 N. Queen St., 394-4133. “The Best of the Best of McCaskey Seniors” — Artwork in various media on display.

3. Chestnut House, 25 W. King St., Hager Arcade, 393-0111. “Etched and Carved Glass” — Etched and carved organic and geometric forms on glass by Noreen K. Lahr will be on display. Lahr will offer demonstrations throughout the weekend.

4. CityFolk, 146 N. Prince St., 393-8807. “American Folk Art” — Exhibit features works by prominent American folk painters, carvers and furniture makers Don Noyes & Barbara Strawser.

5. Deja View Gallery at Cafe Aroma Borealis, Place Marie Mall, 52 N. Queen St., 509-9869. “Comic Art and the World of Tim Truman” — A retrospective of the world of Tim Truman’s art. Truman was a mainstay in the early independent comic movement and helped revitalize Western comics in the 1990s before branching out and doing artwork for musicians such as the Grateful Dead and Carlos Santana.

6. D&J Scott Galleries, 323 N. Queen St., 397-5360. “Family Ties” — Sheryl Reitz Brinkman shows her watercolors while her granddaughter, Sarah Brinkman, exhibits nature photography. Sheryl’s son, Eric Brinkman, brings old and new woods together to create furniture, and sister Yvette Brinkman Meier finishes Eric’s creations with hand-painted designs.

7. Demuth Museum, 120 E. King St., 299-9940. “25 years of The Demuth: Homage and Hurrah!” — The Demuth Museum celebrates its Silver Anniversary with this exhibition of more than 40 original Demuth works.

8. Eggs-actly Right Gifts, 346 N. Queen St., 629-6040. “The Art of the Egg” — Many styles of hand carved, Pysanky and Faberge-style eggs from quail to ostrich.

9. Gail Gray Studio, 34 ½ N. Queen St. (second floor), 396-8528. “Ongoing Investigations” — This exhibit features work that reflects multiple lines of inquiry in progress.

10. Gallery dePaul, 226 N. Arch St., 299-1631. “Reluctant Brides: The Other Side of Fairy Tales” — Mixed media works by artist K.H. Klein.

11. Gallery 141 Kindred Spirits, 113 N. Water St., 397-2003. Mixed media exhibit features art from the Pennsylvania College of Art and Design, curated by intern Cassie Tarr. Featured artists include Dave Sauer, Erin McSorley, Despina Kalargyros, Claudia Burchstead and Alana Maubury Hunter. Courtyard music from Pappies Pumpkins will accompany the exhibit.

12. Gallery 2, 140 N. Prince St., 390-7222. “Dreaming Venice” — This exhibit features paintings in various mediums inspired by a recent trip to Venice, Italy.

13. Godfrey Advertising, 40 N. Christian St., 569-8137. “Contemporary Jewelry by Linda Moul” — A collection of polymer and beaded jewelry fills the lobby of Godfrey Advertising. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the artist who creates this wearable art.

14. Homestead Village Retirement Community, 1800 Village Circle, 397-4831. “Showcase of Homestead Talent” — Homestead Village, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, showcases the creative talents of its residents, including, fraktur by Peggy Atkins, oil paintings by Helen Mason, watercolor by Harry McCandless, needlepoint by Austin Rich, petit point by Dorothy Rose Smith and silver jewelry by Lou and Dotty Riedlinger.

15. Isaac’s Restaurant and Deli, 25 N. Queen St., 394-0623. “NOT FOLK ART…Flock Art” — The exhibit includes a variety of styles and different media.

16. Isadore Gallery, 228 N. Prince St., 299-0127. “Izzy’s Prints” — Isadore’s collection of vintage prints will be on display including works by Pablo Picasso, Lucio Fontana and John Sloan.

17. J.A. Sharp Custom Jewelry, 334 N. Queen St., 295-9661. “Reflecting the Past” — Custom jewelry inspired by 18th- and 19th-century designs by Andrea Miller Amey.

18. Jerome Hershey Studio, 34 ½ N. Queen St., 397-6355. “Toward Tribute” — New lyrical abstract paintings by one of Lancaster’s leading artists.

19. Kevin Lehman’s Pottery, 560 S. Prince St. (rear left), 509-7547. “Working Studio” — Works in clay by Kevin Lehman, Phil Haralam and Phil Kreider.

20. Keystone Art and Culture Center, 420 Pearl St., 870-4869. “Expressions of Lancaster” — Urban and rural landscapes as well as elements of Lancaster living. Live music.

21. Lancaster County Art Association, 149 Precision Ave., Strasburg, 687-7061. “Fall Membership Show” — Annual juried membership show features work by association members in a variety of styles in the Kauffman Gallery. Steven Wilson will be the featured artist in the Steinmetz Gallery.

22. Lancaster Cultural History Museum, 5 W. King St., 393-3364. “The Printed Word” — This exhibition highlights the printing press and its role in south central Pennsylvania’s history. A special area of the exhibition is devoted to the print shop itself and includes machinery commonly found in a 1920s-era print shop. Demonstrators are on hand periodically to run the press and explain the process of printing.

23. Lancaster Etsy Street Team, 423 N. Cherry St., 391-6578. “Making Connections” — A collaboration of Lancaster artisans working together to create a community of independent artists.

24. Lancaster Galleries, 34 N. Water St., 397-5552. “City Paintings” — Recent works by Michael Allen, Joseph Parrish, John David Wissler.

25. Lancaster Literary Guild, 113 N. Lime St., 431-4433. “When Writers Become Artists” — Permanent collection of photography and paintings by famous writers: Carl Van Vectin, John Sokol, Deborah DeWit Marchant, Jules Feiffer and William Saroyan.

26. Lancaster Museum of Art, 135 N. Lime St., 394-3497. “Trashformations East” — A traveling exhibit from the Fuller Craft Museum, featuring works by artists who use found objects and recycled materials.

27. Lancaster Museum of Art, 215 N. Queen St., (the museum’s future home), 394-3497. “Show Up and Show Show” — An exhibition of art by local and regional artists in a variety of media.

28. Lancaster Quilt and Textile Museum, 37 N. Market St., 393-3364. “For Show, Not for Blow: Handkerchief Quilts” — Pat Gardner, author of “Handkerchief Quilts,” shows a collection of crib quilts, lady’s hankies and more.

29. Mulberry Art Studios, 19-21 N. Mulberry St., 295-1949. Exhibits include “Gary Greene 40-Year Retrospective” and “Paintings by George Weber and Louise Irvin.” Additional visual and performing artists include: Paul Stewart, Rob Kapchinske, Theresa Edgeworth, Terry Ward, The Nibbler, Christian Bard, Ann Kimmich, Brenton Allen and others.

30. Newgrange Studio, 21 N. Charlotte St., 940-8955. “History of the Apothecary: A Mosaic Installation” — Installation will be in progress during ArtWalk Weekend. Tree of Life installation also will be on display. Painted and pressed tile will be for sale.

31. Pennsylvania College of Art and Design, 204 N. Prince St., 396-7833 “The Illustrator’s Century” — Spanning 100 years of illustration, subject matter includes romance, wartime, advertising, fashion, fantasy, science fiction and sports.

32. Pfenninger Gallery, 52 N. Prince St., 509-9790. “Three Masters” — This exhibit features paintings by Florence Putterman and Carol Galligan as well as drawings by Peter Mollenkof.

33. Phillips Museum of Art, Franklin & Marshall College, Steinman College Center, Dana Gallery, 291-3879. “Wire Sculpture by Naomi Grossman”

34. The Photographers Gallery at Delta Imaging, 226 N. Prince St., 859-3200. “Layers” — An exhibit of photography portraying nature and the way mankind interacts with it.

35. Strawberry & Co., 11 W. King St., 392-5345. “All Things Great & Small” — Nature photography by Ashley Lucas. 36. Suk Shuglie Gallery, 1320 B Manheim Pike, 393-0966 “Recent Works” — Large and small acrylic paintings of landscapes, still-lifes and abstracts.

37. Tabor Community Service, Inc., 308 E. King St., 397-5182. “Eastern Market Showcase” — Mixed media exhibit in Lancaster’s historic Eastern Market, featuring artists from all over the world showcasing jewelry, paintings, photography, pottery and more.

38. Todd Snader’s Gallery, 27 E. Lemon St., 397-0092. “Day & Night” — Eclectic art and collectibles.

39. Troupe & Co. Fine Art Gallery, 112 N. Prince St., 394-4356. “Gail Gray: Unknown Ends” — An exhibit of new paintings.

40. Zanzibar, 21 W. King St., 390-2868. “Current Works” — Local and regional imagery in watercolor, gouache, ink and photography.
