A Lancaster man was placed on 3½ years probation Monday for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl.
Jacob M. Kreider, 26, pleaded guilty earlier to charges of indecent assault and corruption of minors.
Lancaster County Court Judge Margaret Miller told Kreider the negotiated plea agreement called for a sentence "less than I would give out."
Assistant District Attorney Rebecca Frantz and defense attorney Samuel Encarnacion assured Miller that the victim and her family had agreed to the sentence in return for the guilty plea.
"This child needs to put this behind her and get on with her life," Miller said.
City police Detective Robert Deeter charged Kreider, a friend of the girl's family, with assaulting the girl in 2005 in her home.
After pleading guilty to the charges in January 2010, Kreider was evaluated to determine if he is a sexually violent predator.
Officials concluded that he is. Miller explained that Kreider must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
As such, Miller continued, Kreider must notify the Pennsylvania State Police where he lives, works or goes to school and must be photographed and fingerprinted.
Should he move outside Pennsylvania, Kreider must immediately notify local law enforcement for similar tracking purposes, Miller said.
In addition to the probation, Miller fined Kreider $100 and ordered him to have no contact with the victim.
