Vehicles struck a home and a store in the Ephrata area in separate accidents this weekend, police said.

Lyudmila Fedyanina, 37, of Ephrata, sustained a minor bump on the head Sunday evening, police said, when her car crossed Route 322 in Ephrata Township and slammed into a house.

Ephrata police Officer Doug Heilman said Fedyanina was driving west on Route 322 when she was blinded by the setting sun shortly after 8 p.m.

Fedyanina slowed her vehicle and it was struck from behind by a car driven by a 17-year-old Ephrata resident, Heilman said.

The impact forced Fedyanina to lose control of the vehicle, the officer said; her car swerved across the eastbound lane before crashing into an attached brick garage of the home at 1335 Division Highway.

Both vehicles were seriously damaged, Heilman said. There was no estimate Sunday night on damage to the home.

Shortly after midnight Sunday, Heilman said, another driver lost control of his vehicle and struck the northwest corner of East End Mart, a hardware store at 711 E. Main St. in Ephrata Borough.

Investigations into both accidents were continuing Sunday.

• A 9-year-old boy sustained minor injuries in a  car crash Sunday morning outside New Holland.

According to New Holland police, the accident occurred just before 10 a.m. at Gristmill and Martindale roads, Earl Township.

Betty J. Detter, 56, of Dover, was driving west on Gristmill Road when she stopped at Martindale, then pulled into the intersection and struck a southbound car driven by Inna I. Frient, 19, of Terre Hill, police said.

Detter and a passenger in her car escaped injury, as did Frient and two passengers in Frient's car. The boy, also traveling with Frient, was taken to Ephrata Community Hospital for treatment of cuts.

Frient's car was towed from the scene.

Detter was cited by police with a stop sign violation.

• New Holland police also responded to an accident on Gristmill Road on Saturday.

According to a police report, an unsecured item rolled from a vehicle driven by Leroy S. Hoover of Morgantown. The item, which was not identified by police, struck a vehicle driven by Darin A. Beachy of Denver.

No one was injured. Hoover was cited with violating secure-load requirements.
