Police are looking for the occupants of a sport-utility vehicle, one of whom threw fireworks into the path of a motorcyclist Saturday evening in Mount Joy Township.

The 50-year-old female cyclist from Elizabethtown suffered minor injuries to her right arm after she crashed her bike while trying to avoid the explosives, Northwest Regional police said.

Police said she was not injured by the fireworks.

The incident occurred at about 7:15 p.m. in the area of Elizabethtown Road and Ridgeview Road South.

Police said the woman was riding her motorcycle west on Elizabethtown Road behind a dark-colored SUV when a young male threw fireworks from a rear flip-up window.

"She said she noticed the vehicle (prior to the incident) because one kid kept looking back at her and laughing," police Chief Sam Gatchell said.

Gatchell said the suspect is a young male, possibly a teenager, but he could provide no further description of the individual. He said police believe there were two or three people inside the vehicle at the time of the incident.

Gatchell said he did not know how far apart the vehicle and cycle were when the fireworks were thrown but said the cyclist had no time to avoid the explosives.

"It's my understanding that she was pretty much on top of it right away," Gatchell said. "That said, it's amazing she didn't suffer more serious injuries. This is no joke. It could have been a lot worse."

Gatchell said the assailants could face charges of reckless endangerment and missiles thrown into the roadway, both of which are misdemeanors.
