One team was used to being in the District Three boys' lacrosse semifinals while the other was experiencing it for the first time ever.

Behind seven goals from Frank Miller, Manheim Township cruised to a 16-1 win over Elizabethtown Tuesday night at Cumberland Valley.

The win advanced the defending District Three champion Blue Streaks (20-3) to Thursday's title game opposite another L-L rival, Hempfield, at Hersheypark Stadium with the first faceoff at 7 p.m. The Bears will play Conrad Weiser in the consolation final at 7 p.m. Thursday at Cumberland Valley.

"It never gets old. The coaching staff stays the same, but you always have an influx of players in new positions," said MT coach Rich Lefever, whose team has had won three straight CPSLA titles before last year's first-ever District Three crown.

"One year to the next, the kids have different roles and everyone wants to be on the big stage. Two teams are playing and the rest are watching. What more can you ask for?"

Miller scored five of his goals in the first half while Kevin Estabrook and Rob Wertz each added one to give MT a 7-0 lead at the break.

The game would have been more lopsided if not for the play of Bears' goalie Giordana Pugliese, who stopped 15 shots in the game.

"We had great looks and great shots and he kept them in the game early," said Lefever. "I'm sure he'll help them Thursday and in states."

MT scored four more in the third and E-town received its lone goal by Nate Mueller in the quarter.

Mark Stratton (2 goals, 2 assists), Chase Miller, Tyler Karpinski, Wertz and Miller all scored once in the final quarter for MT.

"Sixteen goals  is a big number," said Miller. "It gives us confidence going into the final."

Elizabethtown, one of the first to field a lacrosse team in Lancaster County, reached new milestones this season. The Bears, the No. 16 seed, made the district semis for the first time in the program's history and are guaranteed a berth the state tournament next week.

"This is good for the program," said E-town coach Jeremy Adams. "We beat two teams with higher seeds and we'll be in states for the first time. It's created some excitement in our program and given us experience."

For the veteran MT squad, there's a title to defend and revenge to be had against Hempfield, which beat the Streaks in the L-L final two weeks ago.

"That's some motivation. Being down 2-1 in the series to them and to try to even that in a district championship makes it even bigger," Miller said.

Hempfield 9, Conrad Weiser 3: The Black Knights went into halftime only leading 4-3, but used a dominating second half to shut down the Scouts at Comet Field in Millersville.

Hempfield (23-1) scored first only 13 seconds into the game on a shot blasted into the net by Matt Senft off the pass from Ryan Bailey. This looked like a sign of an easy win, but Conrad Weiser was not ready to roll over, tying the game on a low shot by Adam Engle.

Hempfield went back on top again less than a minute later on a low shot by Spencer Lehr, but the Scouts bounced back again with a goal 36 seconds later to even the game at two.

"Our defense did not have a great day fundamentally, and we did not communicate very well in the first half," said Hempfield coach Doug Bailey.

Hempfield finally took the lead for good with nine seconds left in the quarter on a goal by Greg Sheetz, who double pumped and drilled a shot past the keeper. The score was 4-2 when Conrad Weiser scored late in the second half with a man advantage to get within one at 4-3, but the Black Knights dominated the rest of the way.
