None but the Braves.
That's who currently occupies the top spot in the L-L Section Four baseball standings, Pequea Valley handling Lancaster Catholic 6-1 Tuesday night in a matchup of first-place teams at Stumpf Field.
"The kids really got up for this game," Braves boss Mike Conklin said. "They realize they're playing for something."
What the Braves (8-5 L-L, 9-7 overall) are playing for is Pequea Valley's first section title since 2006.
Catholic (7-6, 8-8) has won the last two Section Four championships.
"We didn't give this game away," Crusaders coach Chris Kiehl said. "They took it from us."
Indeed. Braves southpaw Brandon Beiler (2-2) went the distance, beating Catholic for the second time in less than a month and holding the Crusaders to their lowest run total so far this season. Their previous low was three runs, an output recorded three times, the first of which came in a loss to Beiler in Kinzers on April 7.
Under the lights at Stumpf Field, Beiler scattered nine hits, struck out five and walked three. The 5-foot-9, 145-pound junior threw 110 pitches — 69 for strikes — and mixed his curve and change-up to keep Catholic's big hitters off-balance.
"He threw his off-speed pitches for strikes and that's what you have to do against a good fastball-hitting team," Conklin said. "He showed a lot of poise."
Particularly in tight situations. Catholic put at least one runner on base in every inning, but Beiler relied on his pitching smarts and airtight defense to strand nine.
"I can't ask for a better defense," he said. "I just threw strikes and let my defense do the work behind me."
Left fielder Colton Smoker made a diving catch in the seventh and catcher Kyle Heagy turned in two gems. He picked a runner off second in the fifth and then turned in the defensive play of the game in the sixth when he fielded a high chopper and gunned the ball to first for the third out to strand two Crusader runners.
The Braves' offense, meanwhile, nicked Catholic lefty Jamie Pashuck for a run in the first on Connor Beiler's leadoff single and a triple to right by Danny Stoltzfus.
The Crusaders tied the game in the second when Rob Lehman reached on a fielder's choice and eventually scored on Seth Graham's two-out single.
The Braves broke back on top in the fourth on Tyler Schmitt's leadoff triple to center, Heagy's RBI single and Chris Algyer's run-scoring double.
They tacked on three more runs in the seventh, courtesy of consecutive singles by Ryan Shirk, Connor Beiler and Tyler Clark and a two-base throwing error by Catholic.
"We've had a couple of those Dr. Jekyll-Mr. Hyde innings this year," Kiehl said. "A couple of things go wrong and a good team takes advantage of it."
"Definitely a big win for us," Brandon Beiler said. "Now we want to finish strong, win the section championship."
Solanco 8, Ephrata 7: The Golden Mules (8-5, 10-6) moved to within a game of tying for the Section Two lead with a comeback win over the front-running Mountaineers (9-4, 13-4).
Trailing 5-1, Solanco rallied for a combined seven runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Ralph Brown earned the win in relief and Bryce Keyes homered for Solanco.
