Going technical

Save your money instead for the TI-83, TI-84 or TI-89 Titanium graphing calculator your genius will need for those advanced math and science classes in high school.

Some students are using PDAs, personal digital assistants, to keep their schedules and take notes, Chantel said. Better check with the school district, though, before you let your child talk you into buying one because many have Internet access, e-mail, phone and instant message capabilities that could affect his or her ability to pay attention to the teacher.

Oh, and by the way.... cell phones to text message test answers to friends and iPods to tune out the teacher’s annoying voice are not school supplies — in spite of what your child may say!
