Two major PennDOT road projects are scheduled to get under way Monday, March 15.
• A little more than 3.6 miles of Columbia Avenue (Route 462) from west of Urban Drive in East Hempfield and Manor townships to Rider Avenue in Lancaster Township will undergo drainage and guide-rail improvements; repairs to the road base; and an asphalt overlay.
One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained 6 a.m.-8 p.m weekdays. Overnight, Route 462 may be restricted to a single lane using an alternating traffic pattern. Work should be finished by the end of August.
The project was supposed to start March 8 but was delayed because the contractor, Pennsy Supply Inc., wasn't ready, according to PennDOT.
• Drivers on Route 222 will experience construction in two areas, with traffic restricted to a single lane in each direction until roughly mid-June.
First, work will resume on repairing and resurfacing nearly eight miles between Bushong Road in Manheim Township and Mohlers Church Road in Ephrata Township. There also will be repairs to the twin bridges over Pleasant Valley Road.
Second, decks will be replaced for the twin bridges over Church Street in East Cocalico Township.
