Blizzard forces postponements of L-L League, college events

So much for global warming.

For the second time in five days, a winter storm bearing heavy snow has battered Central Pennsylvania and forced the postponement of area sporting events.

At press time Tuesday night, 21 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League's 24 schools had announced their closing today.

In boys' basketball, the following games scheduled for Tuesday were postponed and rescheduled for Thursday:

Manheim Township at McCaskey; Garden Spot at Conestoga Valley; Lebanon at Solanco; Donegal at Elco; and Northern Lebanon at Lampeter-Strasburg.

In girls' basketball, Tuesday's games rescheduled for Thursday include McCaskey at Manheim Township; Solanco at Lebanon; Conestoga Valley at Garden Spot; Northern Lebanon at Lampeter-Strasburg; and Elco at Donegal.

Today's games that have been rescheduled for Thursday include Annville-Cleona at Lancaster Mennonite boys' basketball and Lancaster Mennonite at Annville-Cleona girls' basketball, as well as the Lebanon Catholic-Lancaster Catholic girls-boys doubleheader, to be hosted by Lancaster Catholic.

Today's boys' basketball games moved to Friday include Manheim Township at Warwick; Garden Spot at Solanco; and Elizabethtown at Lebanon.

Girls' games scheduled for today — Warwick at Manheim Township, Solanco at Garden Spot, Lebanon at E-town — have been reset for Friday.

In scholastic wrestling, Tuesday's Twin Valley at Garden Spot match has been moved to Friday. Conestoga Valley's match at Reading has been postponed and will be made up on a date to be announced. The Susquenita at Northern Lebanon meet has been canceled. Thursday's Columbia at McCaskey match has been moved to Friday.

In scholastic bowling, Tuesday's Elco at York V-Tech match has been rescheduled for next Tuesday. Today's Ephrata at Lebanon match has been reset for Tuesday at Cedar Lanes.

In local college sports, Tuesday's Wilkes-Elizabethtown wrestling match has been canceled.

Tonight's Elizabethtown's women's-men's basketball doubleheader versus Lycoming at Elizabethtown's Thompson Gym has been rescheduled for Thursday. The women's game is set to start at 6 p.m. followed by the men's game at 8.

Tonight's Millersville men's and women's basketball games against Shippensburg have been rescheduled for Thursday at Pucillo Gymnasium. The women's game will begin at 6 p.m., and the men's game will follow at 8.

The MU men's and women's basketball doubleheader scheduled for Saturday at West Chester has been moved to Sunday. The women's game will begin at 1 p.m., and the men's game will follow.

Franklin & Marshall's men's and women's swim meets at Gettysburg College scheduled for Saturday have been moved to Sunday at 1 p.m.

At press time Tuesday night, no official announcements had been made on F&M's men's and women's basketball games and wrestling scheduled for tonight at Gettysburg College.

Also, the live racing program at Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course scheduled for tonight has been canceled due to the winter storm. Additionally, full card simulcasting at the track will be closed tonight.

Live racing is scheduled to resume Thursday with post time at 6:30 p.m.
