The child was sexually assaulted "hundreds of times," for almost eight years, the prosecutor said.

The man made another child watch at times, the prosecutor added, as he performed "every kind of sexual act" on the girl.

To add to the victim's trauma, the prosecutor continued, the girl — pregnant from rape — also was forced to get an abortion.

The abuse finally stopped, the prosecutor said, when police arrested Dwayne A. Goudy and a Lancaster County jury convicted him last September.

On Friday, Judge Jeffery Wright sentenced Goudy to 22 to 44 years in state prison for the series of rapes and assaults on the girl.

The judge described the crimes as "violence and degradation against a child."

Wright told the girl, who was sitting in the front row of the spectator section of the courtroom, "you did nothing wrong.

"Never think of yourself as a victim," Wright said.

She had the courage to come forward, possibly protecting other child from a similar fate. Because of that, Wright told her, "you're a hero in my eyes."

Look around, the judge told the girl, at all the people "who truly support and love you.

"No one, especially him, can ever take that away from you," Wright said.

Prior to imposing sentence, Wright deemed Goudy, 45, of Brooklyn, N.Y., a sexually violent predator, which will result in additional conditions on him in prison and during parole.

Goudy repeatedly assaulted the girl for nearly eight years beginning when she was 10, Assistant District Attorney Karen Mansfield told Wright.

The details of the crimes, Mansfield said, which included various counts of rape, sexual assault and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, comprised "one of the most egregious cases" she'd ever seen.

And throughout the prosecution, Mansfield added, Goudy showed no remorse, only arrogance.

Mansfield credited police in four jurisdictions who brought the charges against Goudy, who lived in different areas of Lancaster County during the years he was assaulting the girl.

City police Detective Sonja Stebbins charged Goudy for assaulting the girl from 2000 to 2003.

Manheim Township Police Detective Allen Leed charged Goudy for assaulting and raping the girl between 2003 and 2007.

East Lampeter Township Police Detective Preston Gentzler and Penn Township Police Detective Matt Weidman charged Goudy for assaulting the girl from 2007 until his arrest in 2008.

On Friday, before the sentence was imposed, the victim stood in the middle of the courtroom and faced Goudy.

"You know what you did," she said, adding that someday she deserves an apology from him, "a sincere one."

"This is a very horrible case," defense attorney Samuel Stretton told the judge, "but I still see some hope for rehabilitation" for his client.

Stretton asked that Goudy not be ordered to pay $2,337 restitution from the small amount of money he may earn in prison.

Wright rejected that request and ordered Goudy to have no contact with the girl.
