Multiple vehicles crashed along the eastbound lanes of Route 283, at the Route 772 intersection in Rapho Township, around 7 p.m. Saturday. A white sedan rolled over on the eastbound exit ramp to Route 772 and came to rest between the ramp and Route 283. Vehicles ran off the highway and debris littered the road for about ¼ mile south of the ramp.
Injuries were reported but no other details about the accident or its victims were available from state police at Ephrata late Saturday.
Route 283 was temporarily closed between routes 772 and 230.
Responding to the scene were firefighters from Rheems and Hempfield and ambulances from Susquehanna Valley, Northwest and Manheim Memorial.
RETAIL THEFT: Christopher P. Frese, 24, Denver, was arrested for retail theft at 4:20 p.m. Friday at the Ephrata Township Wal-Mart store, Ephrata Borough police said.
According to police, Frese took a can of whipped cream from the dairy case and inhaled the nitrous oxide from the can before returning the product to the shelf.
Frese then tried to leave the store without paying for iPod cases, cosmetics and armbands valued at $32.20, police said.
Frese had prior convictions for retail theft, which made Friday's offense a felony, police said; he is being held at Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $15,000 cash bail.
DRINKING CHARGES: Hector Luis Mendez Jr., 25, Lancaster, was charged with driving under the influence after being stopped at Route 462 and Pitney Road for traffic violations at 11 p.m. Friday, state police at Lancaster said.
•Jason Carter Crayton, 30, Lancaster, was charged with driving while intoxicated Saturday, state police at Ephrata said. Crayton was stopped for a traffic violation at 4:15 a.m. on Route 222 at Route 322, Ephrata Township, and was found to be under the influence of alcohol, police said.
•Isaiah J. Evans, 20, Reading, was picked up by police at 2:16 a.m. Friday in the 600 block of Lafayette Street and cited with public drunkenness and underage drinking, police said.
•K.C. L. Franklin, 27, Columbia, was arrested at 1 a.m. Saturday in the first block of West Orange Street and cited with public drunkenness and disorderly conduct, police said.
•Lynn A. Wesley, 47, of the 500 block of Locust Street, was arrested at 7:28 p.m. Friday in the 300 block of South Queen Street and cited for public drunkenness and disorderly conduct, police said.
•Ryan E. Oatman, 37, Lancaster, was arrested at about 6:36 p.m. Friday in the 500 block of Spruce Street and cited for public drunkenness, city police said.
RUNAWAY: State police at Ephrata are investigating the circumstances of a juvenile runaway. A 14-year-old Denver girl was reported missing at 5:05 a.m. Thursday and was found at a home in the 100 block of West Maple Grove Road, Brecknock Township, at 12:15 p.m. Police said they are investigating a person who knew the girl and concealed her location while she was missing.
ARRESTS: Rose M. Flosser, 32, was arrested on a warrant shortly after 4 a.m. Saturday at her home in the 200 block of North Mulberry Street, city police said.
•Byron T. Jefferson, 19, Philadelphia, was arrested by Millersville Borough police, transported to the Lancaster police station at 3:39 a.m. Saturday and charged with indecent assault, unlawful restraint and two counts of indecent assault without consent, city police said. The arrest location was not given.
•Justin L. Keene, 23, of the 600 block of North Pine Street, was arrested on a bench warrant around 2:30 a.m. Saturday in the 500 block of West Frederick Street and committed to Lancaster County Prison, police said.
