A pair of Lancaster-Lebanon League field hockey standouts have earned a major award.

Penn Manor senior scoring machine Jill Witmer and Donegal junior midfielder Laura Gebhart have been named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association/Harrow Sports All-American Team.

Witmer and Gebhart, who squared off in the L-L League championship game, were named First-Team All-Americans, and were two of four Pennsylvania players named to the prestigious squad.

Five players from Pennsylvania were named Second-Team All-Americans.

Witmer, a University of Maryland recruit, had an unforgettable career for Penn Manor, helping the Comets win the PIAA Triple-A state championship last year, and then following that up with 39 goals while helping Penn Manor win the L-L League title, the District 3 crown, and reach the state quarterfinal round this past fall.

Witmer, who finished her career with more than 100 goals for the Comets, scored nine of Penn Manor's 10 goals during the district playoffs, and after a narrow 1-0 defeat to eventual state-champ Lower Dauphin in the state quarterfinals, Penn Manor finished the season with a sparkling 25-1-1 overall record.

Gebhart, meanwhile, had 21 goals and 14 assists and helped Donegal reach the L-L League title game, win the District 3 Double-A crown, and reach the PIAA Double-A state semifinals, where the Indians fell to Selinsgrove and finished their season 23-5 overall.

Gebhart also plays for the U.S. Women's Under-21 National Team.
