A robber threatened a Lancaster man near Penn Square early Tuesday but was unable to snatch cash the victim had just withdrawn from an ATM, city police said.

A 64-year-old man took $250 out of the ATM at Fulton Bank, just north of the square, shortly before 2 a.m., police said.

The suspect approached him, called him an obscene name and said, "Give me your money. I'll shoot you," police said.

The robber then tried to take the cash from the man's hand, police said. But the man held on to his money and shoved the robber, who fled south on South Queen Street.

The victim followed the robber but lost sight of him in the area of East Vine and South Christian streets, police said. No gun was displayed during the incident.

The suspect was described as a black male, unknown age, medium build, 6 feet 4 inches to 6 feet 5 inches tall, with no facial hair, police said.
