Junior quarterback Matt Johnson passed for three touchdowns and rushed for two more as top-seeded Bishop McDevitt blasted Governor Mifflin 49-7 Saturday in a District Three Class AAAA quarterfinal at Harrisburg High's Severance Field.
The win earns McDevitt (11-0) a semifinal appointment with No. 5 seed Penn Manor (10-2) at 1 p.m. Saturday at at Severance Field.
The No. 9-seeded Mustangs (7-5) were never in the game as Johnson completed 12 of 13 passes for 257 yards and ran six times for another 39 yards, including TDs of 1 and 15 yards.
His scoring strikes - 32, 40 and 18 yards - went to wide receiver Salath Williams, a University of Pittsburgh recruit, who finished with five catches for 153 yards.
In other other semifinal, Wilson (11-1), the second seed, and No. 6 seed Cumberland Valley (10-2) will square off in West Lawn at 7 p.m. Friday.
Wilson drubbed Central York 34-7 Friday. CV outlasted Central Dauphin 24-21.
Class AAA: Manheim Central and Conrad Weiser will meet in one AAA semifinal, at 7 p.m. Friday in Manheim.
The top-seeded Barons (12-0) held Daniel Boone at bay 24-20. Weiser (10-2), the No. 4 seed, advanced with a 28-27 overtime victory over Hershey.
In Friday's other semi, second-seeded Susquehanna Twp (11-1), a 50-32 winner over No. 7 Cocalico, will host third-seeded West York (11-1), a 35-34 double-overtime winner over upstart No. 11 seed Conestoga Valley.
Class AA: Defending champion and No. 1-seeded Lancaster Catholic (11-1) will meet second-seeded Delone Catholic for the championship at 7 p.m. Friday at Hersheypark Stadium.
The Crusaders dropped Middletown 48-14 Friday as senior quarterback Kyle Smith completed 16 of 18 passes for 232 yards and four touchdowns.
The Squires (11-1), who won the AA title in 2007, withstood a furious second-half rally by No. 3 seed Littlestown, 27-24.
Class A: Third-seeded Millersburg (9-3), behind a heroic goal-line stand with 28 seconds left, knocked off four-time defending Class A champion Steel-High, 14-13.
The Indians will face Tri-Valley neighbor Upper Dauphin for the title at 1 p.m. Friday at Hersheypark Stadium. The Trojans (10-1), top-seeded in Class A, thumped York Catholic, 26-14.
