A city woman said she was hanging Christmas decorations outside her home Saturday when a teenage boy allegedly stabbed her neighbor on the sidewalk nearby.

The alleged incident happened just before 1 p.m. in front of a home in the 800 block of North Duke Street.

The woman - who did not want to be identified -  called police, who arrived to find Donald "Bob" Gochenaur, 35, with a  knife wound across his left tricep. Gochenaur was treated at Lancaster General Hospital and released.Gochenaur suffered a small puncture wound on his arm, said police, who released no further information about the incident Saturday night.Gochenaur and his wife, Renee Gochenauer, 29, were arguing outside the home when the teen, who had driven Mrs. Gochenauer to the house,  attacked Gochenaur, according to Renee's sister, Lakeesha Bair, 36, of El Paso, Texas, who is visiting the family this week.


CRASHES: State police at Ephrata reported a two-vehicle crash that happened at 5:50 p.m. Friday in northern Elizabeth Township.

Police said Elizabeth M. Knier, 81, Newmanstown, was backing her van out of a parking lot onto Route 501 when a second vehicle, driven by Cletus L. Doutrich, 87, Myerstown, struck the rear of her van. The van spun half-way around and came to rest in a parking lot.

The Doutrich car ended up on the  southbound berm of Route 501. Both vehicles had moderate damage.

Everyone in the vehicles suffered minor injuries, including Knier, Doutrich, a passenger in the Knier van, Norman R. Knier, 89, and a passenger in the Doutrich car, Esther Doutrich, 84.  Norman Knier was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon, for a cut on his head, police reported.

  • Grace O. Milley, 18, Parkesburg, was driving south on Churchtown Road in Salisbury Township at 9:21 p.m. Wednesday when she lost control on a curve, state police at Ephrata said.
Her car drove off the north side of the road, struck an embankment, rolled on its right side and then landed back on its wheels, police said; Milley was treated for minor injuries at Reading Hospital and released.
  • A truck driven by Leon Lilley III, 61, Geigertown, collided with a sport-utility vehicle operated by Christine Wise, 30, New Holland, at 2:19 p.m. Thursday after Lilley ran a red light on West Main Street at Mentzer Avenue, New Holland police said.

No injuries were reported, but police said Wise's vehicle was towed away.


ACID VANDALISM: A vehicle in the 100 block of Orlon Street, New Holland,  was damaged by acid between Nov. 13 and Nov. 15, borough police said.

About 18 more vehicles were vandalized on the street late Nov. 15 or early Nov. 16, according to police. It appears a caustic liquid was also applied to 22 new and used vehicles at Turner Buick, 612 E. Main St.

Paint was damaged on all the vehicles, according to police, who added that the mischief does not appear to have been done by the same "acid vandal" who damaged hundreds of vehicles in Lancaster and surrounding suburbs in 2006 and 2007.

  • The driver's side window of a vehicle parked in the 300 block of Howard Avenue was broken between 8 p.m. Thursday and 5:50 a.m. Friday, police said. Damage of $250 was reported.
  • An unknown object was used to break a window overnight Friday in the 300 block of Howard Avenue, causing $150 damage, police said.
DISORDERLY CONDUCT: New Holland police said they responded to the first block of South Custer Avenue  at 4:24 a.m. Saturday to investigate a  report of a woman having difficulty breathing after an assault.

Police gave the following account: Justin M. Caverly, 23, who lives at that address, refused to open the door. Officers forced the door open when they saw a woman inside bleeding from her face. The woman told police she fell during an argument with Caverly,  refused to cooperate with officers and declined medical treatment.

Caverly was arrested for disorderly conduct and taken to Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bail, police said.

DRUG CHARGES: A 16-year-old Strasburg boy was charged Saturday with possession of a small amount of marijuana and a marijuana pipe during a Nov. 16 incident, New Holland police said. The drug and paraphernalia were found in the teen's vehicle when he was stopped in the 500 block of East Main Street for a traffic violation, police said.

DUI: Timothy Jon Ney, 40, Lancaster, was charged with driving under the influence and related offenses following a vehicle crash in Paradise Township at 1:49 a.m. Friday, state police at Lancaster said. Ney was westbound on Route 30 at Londonvale Road when he lost control of his vehicle and hit a guardrail, police said.

  • Jorge Gonzalez-Velez, 18, East Earl, was arrested for driving under the influence following a traffic stop at Diller Avenue and Locust Street at 12:45 a.m. Saturday, New Holland police said.
  • Carolyn Ann Kaseman, 32, Marietta, was arrested for driving under the influence at 1:53 a.m. Friday at Harrisburg Avenue and Colebrook Road, Mount Joy Township, state police at Ephrata reported.
Police said they arrested Kaseman after her vehicle became disabled in traffic. She was charged with driving under the influence and careless driving,  police said.
  • Vicky Altenderfer, 50, of the 900 block of Wallingford Drive, Manheim Township, was charged with driving under the influence after a crash at 10:19 p.m. Thursday, Warwick Township police said.
Altenderfer turned onto Kissel Hill Road from East Woods Drive and drove head-on into a southbound car operated by Timothy Rakos, 18, Lititz, police said.
  • Jason R. Graham, 21, of the first block of Park Avenue, Mountville, was arrested for DUI around 1:15 a.m. Saturday after he committed a traffic violation in the first block of Yale Avenue, Manor Township police said.
  • Amanda L. Leventry, 21, of the 1700 block of Judie Lane, was arrested for DUI at 2:43 a.m. Saturday after her car ran off Millersville Road, south of Manor Ridge Drive, Manor Township police said. Leventry told officer she was texting but was found to be under the influence of alcohol, police said.
  • Ryan David Shank, 24, of the 800 block of Woodfield Drive, Lititz, was stopped at 12:42 a.m. Saturday for a traffic violation in the 1600 block of Columbia Avenue and arrested for DUI, Manor Township police said.
THEFTS: Ashley M. Lawrence, 23, Lancaster, was arrested at 12:20 p.m. Friday after she tried to take $80 worth of beauty care products from Weis Markets, 1400 Stony Battery Road, West Hempfield Township police said.
  • A yellow, 15-foot ladder was stolen from the backyard of a residence in the 900 block of North Duke Street Thursday or Friday, city police said. The ladder was valued at $109.
  • An MP3 player valued at $200 was stolen from a vehicle in the 500 block of Poplar Street between 9 p.m. Thursday and 9:30 a.m. Friday, city police said. A window was broken out to gain entry, causing $250 damage.
UNDERAGE DRINKING: Antonio L. Jackson Jr., 20, Reading, was arrested   for underage drinking at 12:45 a.m.  Saturday at Diller Avenue and Locust Street following a traffic stop, New Holland police said. Jackson was a passenger in the vehicle, police said.
  • Maxwell F. McCullough, 19, Philadelphia, was cited for underage drinking in the 1200 block of Hillview Avenue at 12:59 a.m. Saturday, Millersville Borough police said. He was seen standing on the sidewalk with a beer, police said.
  • Kenneth A. Strauser, 18, a Millersville University student, was cited for underage drinking in the first block of South Prince Street at 12:23 a.m. Saturday, Millersville Borough police said.

An officer observed Strauser urinating at the back of a property and detected a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, police said.


WARRANT SWEEP: Manheim Township police arrested nine people on criminal and traffic violation warrants during a sweep Friday. The people were arrested for the following offenses:

  • Raul Collazo, 23, Lancaster, disorderly conduct.
  • Dennis J. Shellenberger, 33, Lancaster, traffic.
  • Daisa M. Arroyo, 23, Lancaster, traffic.
  • Jacklyn I. Sanchez, 22, Lancaster, harassment.
  • Nicholas J. Dickinson, 18, Lancaster, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief.
  • Jenna L. Martin, 25, Lancaster, traffic.
  • Felix Goyco, 27, Lancaster, criminal warrant.
  • Philip Wayde, 33, Lancaster, traffic.
  • Scott Ketner, 45, Manheim, criminal warrant.

All were brought before District Justice David Miller. Shellenberger, Martin, Goyco and Ketner were committed to Lancaster County Prison.

  • Lennell A. Preston, 33, of the 600 block of Rockland Street, was stopped for a traffic violation at 11:48 p.m. Friday in the 200 block of Green Street and found to be wanted on five summary warrants, city police said; Preston paid the warrants and was released.
  • Donna L. Broadnax, 50, of the 1600 block of Passey Lane, was taken into custody by East Lampeter Township police and turned over to city police early Saturday on 11 outstanding parking warrants, Lancaster police said. She was released after paying the warrants, police said.
UNCONSCIOUS: A woman was found lying unconscious outside Ephrata Community Hospital Saturday. Ephrata Borough police did not release any additional details.
