Two city men were charged with theft after one stole a $5.59 container of Planters peanuts and the other stole five cans of beer, police said.
Joshua Michael Kitch, 23, of 543 Spruce St., took the peanuts from the Giant grocery store at 1360 Columbia Ave. on Saturday, police said. He shoved a store security person, too, leading to a harassment charge.
Because Kitch has two prior convictions for retail theft, the latest charge is considered a third-degree felony charge, according to city police Lt. Todd Umstead. That means he could face up to seven years in prison if convicted.
Kitch was sent to county prison on $5,000 cash bail, Umstead said.
In a separate incident, Kenneth Eugene Butzer Jr., 51, of 210 S. Prince St., was charged with stealing $7.75 worth of beer from the Belvedere Inn's carry-out section at the rear of the 402 N. Queen St. building on Nov. 8, he said. Butzer has one prior retail theft conviction.
