Luis "Tony" Delgado, 34, and his brother, Hector Delgado, 37, formerly of Lancaster, were fatally shot in their Lowell, Mass., apartment at about 1:30 a.m. Friday, according to the Lowell Sun newspaper.
Tanya Mack, 37, of Lancaster, notified the Sunday News of their deaths. Mack said she considers them her brothers because her mother, Virginia Mack, of Lancaster, raised them.
Neighbors told the Lowell Sun that the brothers lived in a "bachelor pad" with two unrelated male friends, who were not harmed. Neighbors described the community as family-friendly and quiet, but they feared the gunmen would return, looking for the brothers' roommates.
Neighbors also said the brothers were well-liked; Hector Delgado took the neighborhood kids to McDonald's when his son was visiting him on weekends, and Tony Delgado bought ice cream for the children, according to the article.
Tony was a bar manager, and Hector was a security guard and janitor, Tanya Mack said.
There is no indication that the brothers were involved in any illegal activity, according to the Lowell Sun.
"I'm just so sad over the whole thing," Tanya Mack said. "I don't know why anybody would do such a thing."
The Delgado brothers moved to Lowell about 10 years ago for a change of pace and to be near other family members, Tanya Mack said.
"They would always be very nice to everyone in the neighborhood [in Lancaster city]," she said. "Especially the elderly, and cutting people's grass and taking care of the snow."
The brothers were active in the Lancaster Boys' and Girls' Club growing up, she said.
She said Tony Delgado is survived by a son, Trey, 13, of Lancaster. Hector is survived by a son, Hector, 3, of Lowell.
The brothers are also survived by their mother, Iris Delia Martinez, of Lancaster; two brothers, Charles Delgado, of Lancaster, and Delfin Delgado, of North Carolina; and two sisters, Bethzida "Tita" Delgado and Daisy Delgado, both of Lowell.
