A 73-year-old Elizabethtown woman suffered multiple injuries when a car struck her as she walked along the road Monday afternoon, police said.
The pedestrian, Ellen Sundy of 415 W. Ridge Road, and the driver, Carissa Stoner, 18, of West Donegal Township, were transported by ambulance to Hershey Medical Center, Northwest Regional Police said.
Sundy was in critical condition on Tuesday, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Stoner was treated and released, police said.
Stoner's car left the roadway in the 400 block of West Ridge Road and struck Sundy and a mailbox at about 4:25 p.m., police said.
Police said they have no witnesses of the accident. They could not confirm a media report that Sundy was retrieving her mail when she was struck.
Police ask that anyone with information about the accident call 367-8481. Officer Ken Whitebread is leading the investigation. The Lancaster County Northwest Crash Team is assisting.
