Close to 3 inches of rain have fallen on Lancaster County so far in this month of pumpkins, first frosts and homecoming football games.

And all but a quarter-inch of that came during the waterlogged stretch from Thursday to Sunday morning.

This is not news to you if you tried to do anything outside over those 72 hours — but things now are drying out for the immediate future.

AccuWeather Forecast

Most of this week calls for bright, sunny skies and cool, clear nights, although a touch warmer than the cold we felt overnight last week, when frost advisories were out across Lancaster County.

That was a bit "like late fall or the beginning of winter," as Millersville University student meteorologist John Dougherty said late Monday afternoon.

Today and Wednesday should be mostly sunny, with the temperature warming up to the mid-60s today and even better on Wednesday, up to around 70 degrees.

The average high and low for today through Thursday is around 65 and 40 degrees.

The precipitation total for October is 2.91 inches, according to Millersville's statistics, and 36.89 inches so far in 2009.

That lets you know how much fell recently — just over an inch (1.02 inches) on the dreariest of the days, Saturday, 0.62 inches Friday and 0.67 inches on Thursday.

About a third of an inch (0.37 inches) fell early Sunday morning, for a total of 2.68 inches from Thursday into early Sunday, before the current drying-out began.
