We've moved some features around and revised two sections in the Sunday News today.

The Books pages, which had been in the middle of the Perspective section, have a new home in the Living section (Pages 6 and 7 today), providing space not only for more book reviews, but for more news about local authors and book-related events in the community.

Moving from the local section (Lancaster) to Living will be "The Lancaster That Was," a feature that pictures scenes and events from Lancaster County's past. Space in the local section is often dictated by the obituaries, which, as paid notices, often are quite lengthy. If space was tight, the old photo was held.

This move assures that it will run every week.

Also on the move

Also going to the Living section is the "I Know a Story" column. It has been some time since this feature ran regularly. "Story" gives readers a chance to write about their experiences on any number of subjects.

The move of Books from the Perspective section guarantees color photos on the first page of Travel by starting articles on the back of Perspective and "jumping" them to Page P5.

A listing of guests on the Sunday television news shows is now at the bottom of the "Names and Faces" column in the A section.

You might have had trouble finding Perspective today, because it was not near the front of the paper. The section was printed as part of the "pre-run" Friday night and inserted in the middle of your paper.

In the future, Perspective and Entertainment (usually part of pre-run) could trade places week to week, depending on section sizes and color needs for the "main run."

Those six sections are printed Sunday morning and have to be balanced — no cracks about Gil Smart here — to get the most full-color spots for news and ads.

Today, the A section balances with C, the sports section. the Lancaster section matches with Entertainment, and Business with Auto.

If the "pre-run" is delivered to you on Saturdays, I hope you have already read the Perspective section and noticed the Books pages have moved. Saturday delivery is a choice made by the carriers, often to lighten their Sunday load.

Putting out a newspaper really is a balancing act.

Baseball notes

• Why do I like Pedro Martinez as a Phillie now, but despised him as a Met? The uniform does make the man ... and the fan.

• Do you get as big a kick out of Mitch Williams talking about reliever Brad Lidge's troubles as I do? At the end of the season, who will have caused more nervous breakdowns, Williams as the "the Wild Thing" in 1993 or "Light him up" Lidge this year?

• Notice how few fans criticize manager Charlie Manuel these days. It's amazing how much smarter he's gotten.

• Did you ever think you would see and hear Phillies fans take over the Mets ballpark with chants of "Let's go, Phils," as they did last weekend in New York?

Short on sympathy

I'm learning not to complain about physical aches and pains around daughter Abigail, 13.

She tells me:

"You are getting older, you know."
