A 72-year-old Lititz man was sent to Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $40,000 bail as the result of a three-month investigation into the sexual assault of a 12-year-old child.
Samuel R. Snader turned himself in Wednesday and was charged with corruption of minors, felony intimidation of witnesses and two counts of misdemeanor indecent assault, state police at Ephrata said.
Snader was arraigned before District Justice Nancy G. Hamill for indecent contact with the child on several occasions between March 1 and June 21, police said.
ROBBERY: An attempted armed robbery was reported Saturday morning at a city drug store.
County police dispatchers said a man displayed a knife at the Rite-Aid store, 825 E. Chestnut St., before fleeing in a dark-colored car, possibly a Mitsubishi Gallant, that was last seen heading the wrong way on East Chestnut.
City police had no information Saturday morning whether anything was taken. The robbery was reported at 10:55 a.m.
Radio dispatchers described the suspect as 5 feet, 4 inches to 5 feet, 6 inches tall, with a thin build, a goatee and cropped hair.
Jessica Padilla, a pharmacy technician at the store, wasn't on duty at the time of the holdup, but her sister, Xinia Torres, who also works as a pharmacy technician at the Rite-Aid, was. She placed a nervous phone call to Padilla during the robbery.
" 'I'm really shaken up. I'm locked in the bathroom. They're robbing out front,' " Padilla quoted her sister as saying. She said Torres voluntarily locked herself in the bathroom at the back of the store.
No one appeared to have been hurt. Police closed the store and were still investigating the incident Saturday night.
ACCIDENTS: No injuries were reported after two Bowmansville residents were in a crash Friday in Brecknock Township.
Robin J. Endy, 50, Bowmansville, was charged with driving while intoxicated, hit-and-run and several summary traffic violations after the 4:36 p.m. crash, state police at Ephrata said.
Police said Endy was eastbound on East Maple Grove Road when her car rear-ended a vehicle driven by Timothy H. Burkholder, 22, who had stopped to turn into his driveway.
Endy fled east, drove off the roadway, sideswiped a stone wall for 30 yards and hit a concrete post, according to police.
•State police at Lancaster reported that a car driven by William Ratteree Jr., 63, Norristown, pulled into the intersection of routes 896 and 372, Bart Township, at 11:45 p.m. Friday and collided with a vehicle driven by Christopher Taylor, 44, Quarryville.
Ratteree and Taylor were not injured; a passenger in the Ratteree car, Sheila Thornton, 46, Philadelphia, complained of neck and back pain.
•Celsa M. Echevarria, 25, Lancaster, was cited for careless driving after an accident at 10:23 a.m. Saturday in the 1400 block of Beaver Valley Pike, Strasburg Township, state police said.
Echevarria's car veered off the right side of the roadway and struck a vehicle driven by Charlotte S. McClune, 60, Willow Street, as she was pausing on the shoulder to deliver mail, police said.
McClune's vehicle's hazard lights were activated, police said, and an amber "U.S. Mail" sign was flashing on the roof.
She was taken to Lancaster General Hospital.
•Jeremy Ross, 29, Gordonville, was southbound in the 200 block of Horseshoe Road when he swerved his milk tanker truck to avoid a dog, drove off the roadway and knocked down a utility pole Saturday at 5:30 a.m., East Lampeter Township police said. One lane of traffic was closed for an hour.
COUNTERFEIT: A man paid for $16 worth of food with a counterfeit $100 bill at an Amish stand in the 4500 block of Marietta Avenue, Columbia, Wednesday, West Hempfield Township police reported.
Police said the man, described as white, with a tan and dark, short hair, left the scene in a green minivan.
BRANCH ON CAR: A large tree branch fell on the roof of a Toyota Camry driven by Samuel T. Frankhouser, 66, Ephrata, as he was traveling on Route 501 in Elizabeth Township during a thunderstorm at 1:10 p.m. Saturday, state police at Ephrata said. Frankhouser was able to stop his car safely after the impact, and no one was injured.
DUI: Joel Robles-Torres, 29, of the 3100 block of Old Philadelphia Pike, was nabbed twice Friday for drinking-related charges, East Lampeter Township police said.
Robles-Torres was first seen driving up onto a curb toward the CVS store at 1624 Lincoln Highway East and then reversing and almost striking a police cruiser at 11:30 a.m., police said.
He was found to be highly intoxicated, taken to Ephrata Community Hospital for blood alcohol tests and faces driving while intoxicated charges pending results, police said.
Eleven hours later, at 10:30 p.m., Robles-Torres' car was found in a drainage ditch behind the Ambleside Apartments, 2071 Old Philadelphia Pike. Robles-Torres was found walking in the parking lot, again highly intoxicated, and was charged with public drunkenness, police said.
•George Martin, 63, Intercourse, was stopped by state police at Lancaster at 8:50 p.m. Friday at Route 897 and Spring Garden Road, Salisbury Township, for a stop sign violation.
Police said Martin was found to have been driving under the influence of alcohol and was arrested.
PUBLIC DRUNKENNESS: Adam Timothy Grove, 22, of the 100 block of East Main Street, was arrested at 1:12 a.m. Friday for public drunkenness and theft from vehicles, New Holland police reported.
Grove was seen staggering in the 100 block of Hillcrest Road and was also seen entering vehicles, according to police.
•Andrew M. McCracken, 20, Lancaster, was arrested for public drunkenness and underage drinking in the 400 block of North Prince Street at 2:18 a.m. Saturday, police said.
• Officers were investigating a report of a trespasser in the 500 block of East Orange Street at 1:28 a.m. Saturday when they found Carlos J. Guzman, 40, Lancaster, intoxicated and staggering, city police said. Guzman was arrested for public drunkenness and held until sober.
•Tracy S. Kohn, 52, Lancaster, was arrested for public drunkenness in the 200 block of South Prince Street at 12:35 a.m. Saturday after she caused a disturbance, police said.
•Charles L. McNeil, 50, Lancaster, was arrested for public drunkenness and an open container violation in the 100 block of North Queen Street at 9:03 p.m. Friday, police said.
DRUG CHARGES: Nasario Lupian, 18, no address, was arrested at 11:32 p.m. Friday in the 200 block of South Queen Street for possession of cocaine and possession of marijuana, police said. He was also wanted by juvenile probation, police said.
•Luis D. Melendez-DeJesus, 30, Lancaster, was arrested after Drug Task Force members executed a search warrant and found 15 to 20 grams of powder cocaine, police said. He was charged with possession with intent to distribute and committed to Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $75,000 bail.
THEFT BY DECEPTION: Ashleigh G. Lloyd, 19, of the 100 block of Goods Road, was arrested by New Holland police Tuesday on charges of forgery and theft by deception, police reported Saturday.
On July 24, Lloyd deposited a forged check into her account at PNC Bank, 418 W. Main St., police said.
The check was made payable to Lloyd in the amount of $364. Lloyd was arraigned by District Justice Rodney Hartman and released on $10,000 unsecured bail, police said.
HARASSMENT: Billy Johnson, no age or address given, was cited for harassment after an incident in the 400 block of North Bridge Street, Christiana, at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, state police at Lancaster said.
THEFTS: A black Nextel cellular phone and a set of car keys were taken from an unlocked truck parked in the 500 block of Woodland Drive in Rapho Township overnight Friday, state police at Ephrata said.
•Joshua Martinez, 19, of the 800 block of Prangley Avenue, and a 17-year-old accomplice from Denver were cited with retail theft Friday, East Lampeter Township police said. The duo concealed $76.62 worth of DVDs and electronics at Wal-Mart, 2034 Lincoln Highway East, at 6:20 p.m., police said.
•Tera Suda, 27, of the 3100 block of Lincoln Highway East, was charged with retail theft Friday, East Lampeter Township police said. Suda tried to take $236.50 worth of arts and crafts items from Wal-Mart, 2034 Lincoln Highway East, at 12:55 p.m, police said.
BOXES BLOWN: Fireworks were set off in two mailboxes in the 400 block of Hammertown Road in Caernarvon Township at 12:15 a.m. Saturday, causing $40 damage and a lot of noise, state police at Ephrata said.
