Fire officials said a body recovered from the Susquehanna River Sunday is believed to be that of a boater reported missing Saturday morning.
Robert Fulton Fire Company Deputy Chief Rob Sample said the body was discovered by boaters around 10 a.m. and recovered in Maryland.
Although officials have not made a positive identification, Sample said the body appears to be that of the missing man, whose name was not available Sunday.
Crews from Maryland were initially dispatched to search for a man in his 30s who reportedly jumped from a boat around 1 a.m. Saturday, south of the Peach Bottom power plant, Sample said.
According to reports, another man on the 12-foot boat was starting its motor when he saw the man, who had a flashlight, jump in the water. When the man did not resurface, the boat operator went to the Peach Bottom Marina seeking help.
Lancaster County units took over the search about 9 a.m. Saturday when it was determined the man actually entered the water in Pennsylvania, Sample said.
After finding no sign of the boater, Sample said, crews stopped searching about 5:30 p.m.
Robert Fulton Fire Company, along with an official from the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, returned to the river Sunday morning when boaters spotted the body.
Sample said fire officials secured the body until representatives from Maryland Department of Natural Resources arrived and took control of the scene and recovered the body.
Sample said family members of the missing man were at the scene Sunday morning when the body was recovered.
